When did you go complete? I think there is a time since completion for which they sent out those hold letters.

An autobio I wrote for their joint JD/MS in Journalism, another personal statement, a legal memo, articles I've written for the Diplomatic Courier, and two LORs. What do you think?

thanks, Kronk :) even a hold would be great news. I think the VCE is looking further & further out of reach every day though, they seem to have developed ridiculous standards of acceptance this cycle.

I went complete in early December. I haven't been able to gauge the time since completion for most of the people who reported holds in the last couple of days since I don't know most of their complete dates. I have pretty much lost all faith in the idea that they respond by completion dates though, considering some Sept. completes just heard back while some later completes heard back awhile ago.

Yeah I was held today and was complete in mid-September.

I'd say send everything but the extra personal statement. Can't really hurt at this point.

Oh, also, what format should one use for the LOCI? Is it best to stick to the double-spaced format with one's LSAC number in the heading, or is a more normal letter format (including single/1.5 space) acceptable?

I single-spaced my LOCI for Harvard. I used a letter format, but definitely get your LSAC # in there at the top somewhere.

I wouldn't have done so if there wasn't a specific reason. Eventually, I'll probably change it again.

So, what are successful routes from on hold to admitted? Any advice?

Any combination of a LOCI, updated resume, new LOR, updated, improved grades.

Very interesting, with a 173/3.9 applicant getting the hold letter...

Hehe, Columbia.

In a LOCI, would it be inappropriate to explain why one prefers CLS over NYU despite an interest in PI?

Yes, it would be strange. I would just talk up specific CLS programs and how they'll help you reach your PI goals.

I think that it would be strange, because I guarantee that the CLS adcomms don't view their school as deficient vis-a-vis NYU in terms of PI opportunities.
