Quick question:

Any Hamilton/Butler news usually comes straight with the admissions letter right?

Always, not just usually, although smaller scholarships are awarded later.

how do they determine the hamilton/butler? If I apply this late, are my chances screwed for one of these?

Why in the world did you wait this late to apply?

Yes, you are. All or almost all Hamiltons have already been given out, and the last few will be out by around 2/10. The Butlers go a little later, but they'll be done by 2/20. If you applied today, you would not hear back until late February, after all of the named scholarships are gone,

Just curious: when you all sign into My Columbia and check your status. Does the last line on the page say " thank you for your continued interest in Columbia Law School"

I don't remember seeing that before. Doesn't really matter much anyway, but I wasn't aware if they actually update that stuff if they received an LOCI. I've already heard it wasn't a good idea to send one before a decision. but I sent it before I knew about that and it was acknowledged via email. Probably nothing, but thought I'd ask just in case this could help others with a better shot gauge the updates.

I'm pretty sure everyone has that. Or at least, I do, and I didn't send a LOCI.

I think the money then goes to small scholarships. LSN reports no Hamiltons or Butlers offered after mid-February in any year.

Going through last year on LSN:

Butlers:
1/22 (3)
1/23
1/24 (5)
1/26 (2)
1/28 (3)
2/12
2/18
Unknown date

Hamiltons:
1/22 (4)
1/23 (2)
1/24 (3)
1/26 (2)
Unknown date (2)

Ten of the Hamiltons withdrew, but there do not appear to have been any replacements. The latest Hamilton I can find in any year was on 2/5 in the 2007-08 cycle.

Edit: Actually, there was one in March in 2006-2007. http://lawschoolnumbers.com/mistermister

Completion email 2/1. Fully prepared to be dinged so hard it breaks the sound barrier. I'll feel the shock wave from the force of the GTFO moments before my eardrums are shattered by the ringing tone.

to both you and tomhobbes-- when you guys did your counting, did you include all 60000+ as "butlers?" because 75000 is a common aid total for cls. see:
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/ParanoidJet
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/rabbit9198

so for those of us still waiting, the past trend does not support more butlers going out. but, new year, new scholly trend? otherwise, what is going on with all these indexes that should be auto-admit?

My transcript just updated on LSAC. Should I e-mail Columbia to let them know, or will it be easier to just let LSAC do the notifying?

( I did not recieve a grade request from Columbia.)

I counted any $75k as a Butler. Some of those might not be Butlers, then. Damn you, Columbia, complicating things.

Also, mistermister may have only be a 4.426, but he was a Chemistry/Physics double major (!) who probably had some ridiculously strong focus on patent law.

75k is the maximum need based grant given. Its generally what students over 175+ with demonstrable need get on lsn.

no more butlers revisits the question-- WHAT is going on with all these high indexes that have not yet gotten in?! the inconsequential info request they asked of me seems misleading now.

i am sad; sorry for whining.

I'm at about the same index and am just waiting and waiting... And people from my school have already heard. Sigh.

Yep. I'm at 4.318, which happens to be the exact median according to LSP. So it gives me a 50/50 shot.
