At least in my case it seems to be more number based since I hadn't expressed specific interest in IP.

Does this mean that you received an initial fin aid offer from Columbia and then negotiated with scholarships from other schools as leverage?

No, I received no initial offer. I contacted the FinAid office once I'd gotten my other scholarship offers.

In too, yay! Complete 01/08, 175/3.5ish.

Can't remember the NYU ASW dates offhand; is it possible to combine NYU/CLS into one trip? I don't really want to go to NYC twice... anyone planning on this?

Is this "aid" guaranteed all three years? I mean say they give you financial aid that is somewhat based on merit, and then when you file your FAFSA the next year, you (or your parents) have much greater assets. Could you lose some of this financial aid that you wouldn't have lost if it was purely merit aid?

My aid was merit-based, and is spread out over 3 years. Future FAFSAs don't affect that.

Yeah, +2. Worry not the right word in my case, but I won't assume I haven't gotten in until the mail comes tomorrow with nothing from CLS.

grants are basically guaranteed for three years, but Columbia reserves the right to change them in certain circumstances:

In some cases, when significant changes have occurred in a student's personal circumstances (e.g., student's marriage or divorce, change of spouse's status, etc.) or when a student receives grants from other sources, the student will be asked to provide additional information since eligibility for certain types of aid may be impacted.
