I'm interested as well. I've been complete for several days now, but no mention of "Early Decision" under my LORs. Then again, I'm not seeing the word "regular" on there either...

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm ED, as well.

My "regular" is now gone. Very curious.

Same, and now it shows the name of my last recommender (which was previously missing)...

For those of you who had the "regular" and are ED, did it list all of your recommenders in addition to the "regular"?

As far as LSN goes, only 1 or 2 people(ED) heard in November(late november), the rest of ED heard 12/5 - 12/15. RD started in January.

Got a while to wait guise.

My "regular" disappeared when I went complete. I am not ED.

Same deal for me as you. Previously missing one recommender, then it said "early Decision", now it has that recommender's name.

So, V6, what's the good word on TFA?

Word is good. I'll defer an acceptance to Stanford or Yale, and if I get any great money offers from Columbia or Berkeley, I'd consider deferring there as well. Otherwise, 2011 is my application year.

Good for you. I'm a big fan of TFA. Almost did it myself, and everyone I know who's done it has loved it. Where will you be? PM me if you don't want to share that publicly.

Congrats to you! I'm completing my TFA commitment now and highly recommend the program. Feel free to PM me for any TFA thoughts.

I did TFA as well, so I'd be happy to answer any questions. Do you know where you would be going?

I'll be in California. I'll watch both of your cycles to determine whether or not I defer or reapply! I'll keep your names in case I have any questions.

Inspired by rondemarino, I took a look at all applicants on LSN reporting an ED application to Columbia since 2004, and an LSAT of 173+ (above median for last 2 years, didn't go backwards to find out what old medians were).

The results are pretty interesting:

Image

In total there are 20 LSN applicants reporting a 173+ LSAT and ED at CLS:

*16 of them were admitted outright
*2 of them were rejected outright
*1 of them was WL, rejected
    *1 was WL, withdrawn

Hard to speculate why the two were rejected, but they both were non-trads. Not sure what other factors are in play there. The WL, reject, is a 2.98 GPA, which might just be too low for CLS, but again, way too many factors in play to speculate. There haven't been any WLs or rejects 173+ and ED since the 2006-2007 cycle.

Now, just to be clear, these are some incredibly small sample sizes, and could be highly unreliable considering the self-reporting nature of the data, but it is interesting nonetheless. Especially so since most of these applicants are below the GPA median (which makes sense, otherwise why ED?).

Overall, I think it is an optimistic outlook (perhaps overly so) for those ED applicants over the LSAT median but below the GPA median. I know I will certainly be testing their bottom threshold for GPA this cycle, and we will see if what appears to be a trend continues.

Wasn't a guy from TLS deferred from ED last year with a 173/3.7 or so?

If he was, he wasn't verified so doesn't show up in searches. I'm sure there are some other instances out there as well, going both ways. Hopefully, more positive than negative.

Sorry if this has already been answered--I read a lot but not all of this thread.

I submitted my application on November 4th and haven't heard anything. Is that normal? I've heard SOMETHING from everyone else, even NYU which I thought was the one that took forever.

IIRC he had a 3.9 degree GPA, a 3.7 LSAC GPA, and he admitted to having a lot of errors on his app (typos, etc.). FWIW

FINALLY went ED complete tonight Wohooo!

My numbers are rather low for Columbia, but I hope that speaking several foreign languages will help, along with strong internationally oriented extracurriculars and human rights work experience. Honestly think that it's a long shot though, despite diversity factors :( ... those can only take you so far. Oh well, hope dies last. Good luck everyone, maybe I'll meet some of you next year :)

P.S. turns out they had lost my ED contract, which I had sent via UPS overnight priority, and didn't notify me until almost 3 weeks later, nor did they respond to any of my 4 e-mails over that period, only notified me after I had called for the second time. Some people noted my strong negative reaction to Columbia admissions a couple of days ago- turns out they had actually messed up, it wasn't just me being impatient.
