Uh, because they don't? When you deposit, you are declaring that of all the schools you are currently accepted to, Chicago is your top choice, and you will not be attending any other school that has (at that moment) accepted you. If you're still under review somewhere, you aren't doing anything wrong if you later withdraw from Chicago to attend that school if they come through with an acceptance. If you get in somewhere off a waitlist, and withdraw from Chicago to attend that school, you haven't done anything wrong. The only thing you can't do is withdraw from Chicago, after sending the form and your deposit to Chicago, for a school that had already accepted you when you submitted your deposit and commitment form.
The bolded would appear to be wrong given the policy she quoted.
When you reserve a seat in the Class of 2013, we request that you withdraw any deposits or commitments to attend any other law school and withdraw any outstanding applications for which you have not received a decision.

Lol hence my confusion. I deposited thinking what you thought, but I didn't (my fault) realize I had to withdraw pending apps and such (CLS, HLS, SLS). Any thoughts? How screwed am I?

I cant believe im todays lone ranger. I knew admits would be few and far between, but I thought this was a pretty competitive batch (4/1,4/2). Numbers were high all around. Any other admits today?

I ended up being the only admit a few days later than the rest of my batch. I think it was because they saw my TLS meltdown and saw how bad I wanted to attend. :D

Hey congrats dude! If only one of the two of us was going to get an outright admit, best it be you since you seemed to like Chicago more. Barring a miracle in Palo Alto it looks like it is between NYU and Duke for me.

I hope this makes my situation all right. I really haven't decided between Penn & Chi (I had before, but I just received 78k in aid at Penn) and would like to wait on HLS and SLS.

Waitlist by email yesterday evening. Is the waitlist for Chicago more like a soft rejection or do people get off of it? Also, are there special/preferred levels to the WL?

So does anyone know if Chicago tends to actually pull from their waitlist at all?

Anyone offering any speculation what it means to be a 4/2 person that has received no communication (wl/reject/admit)?? Hoping its a good sign but that's probably just wishful thinking.

My status checker still says that I was waitlisted a month ago, which the school has told me repeatedly was a mistake.

I'd put pretty close to zero stock in how U of C uses that thing.

EDIT: Chicago definitely pulled several people from the WL last year, many as late as July or August. Not all of them were the WL candidates with the highest numbers, either.

Hey guys. If anyone is going to be in Chicago for ASW, a bunch of TLSers are having a meetup.

It's on Thursday. Details here http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 0&t=113281

Hmm, that's reassuring. I feel lucky to even be on the waitlist; this was a major reach for me.

Is it somewhat strange to go UR for the first time on a Friday? Guess I can probably expect a response within the next couple of weeks... Getting into Chicago would end my cycle.

They do. I think it's up to $200. You just show them a receipt afterwards.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
