Actually, hopeful, what is the answer to this? You seem like a smart enough guy; how'd you pull a 2.7 or whatever it is?hopefulundergrad wrote:I guess she's back from the party. Ughh, why is my GPA soooooo low.

IN!!!!!!!!!!
OMG. 174, 3.37, 3 years WE, Grad degree.
Fairly short on info-they called my father because I'm abroad and sent them an email when I applied designating him as my U.S. contact. He managed to say that I would get an email and a packet in the mail, but my phone connection with him was too bad to get much else. Status checker still at under review.

So far we have a C and a G.
I'm near the end so this could be a good thing. Last year they were known to stretch calls over a weekend (calling on Fri and then Mon). Really hope they stopped doing that.

Re: U Chicago 2010
I'm towards the beginning of the alphabet too, but I don't think you should be relying on that. Even if my last name started with a Z, it would not spell your doom. My acceptance proves that they're open to splitters despite the 'large' 'strong' ED app pool they talked about in the twitter feed, and I'm a middle class white girl. If they'd accept me, they'll certainly consider a URM splitter.hopefulundergrad wrote:So far we have a C and a G.

Waiting sucks. I don't want to downplay how much waiting sucks-I only left that pain behind two hours ago. I remember it well. What you should be thinking about, for your own sake, is about why they might be spreading out these calls. I doubt the people working in admissions enjoy denying applicants, especially qualified ones that could do well at Chicago but there simply isn't space for. Getting to make these calls is probably one of the better parts of their day. Hell, it's probably one of funnest things they get to do at work year round. It makes sense (from their perspective) to spread that out over a few days. Good luck, and go have fun with your friends this weekend regardless of whether or not you get a call.

Since it's probably not alphabetical, I'm guessing they are doing them by the date the application went "complete." Mine was 12/04 (according to the status checker) but I've heard no news...

Edit: It's funny that I'm begging a school to let me pay them $120K+ over the next 3 years.

Is it true that they usually break it up between Friday and Monday?
Besides being cruel, this does not make sense because it shouldn't take that long to call a few hundred numbers.

I suspect they probably fill 1/8-1/4 of their ~190 student class via ED. They supposedly had some yield issues last year so with their "strong ED pool" that percentage might be even larger this cycle... hopefully.
