To each their own. But seriously, he's not unattractive, just in the large, foggy middle.

+1, the only problem is that he looks potentially short and I'm tall for a girl. :(

You're right. You might get away if under 5'8''. Any guy under 6 foot looks short to me.

Truth is I'm only fussy about intelligence and he already has that so...

No, he's tall. I'm 6'2"-6'3" and I was looking him in the eye.

Can't get away with it then, haha. Although, as long as a guy was taller than me I wouldn't be that picky about his height (just a little pissed that I couldn't wear heels when we were out together).

And yeah, in a battle of height v. intelligence you'd have to be crazy not to pick intelligence.

edit: hooray for ConMan's post above

Wow you are tall! I'm jealous. I'm 5'6'' and would love to be taller. As for JR, 6'2'' is always good. This is why it's probably good that I didn't get admitted before the ASW.

(Also I'm glad I have TLS or RL people would think I was insane when I tried to explain who JR was and why I think his voice is sexy.)

haha thanks! I think 6'2" is a good height for a guy too actually -- it's a big enough height difference that I can wear heels without the awkward 'I'm taller than my boyfriend' effect.

Hahaha! I know it's weird and we're all being brainwashed by patriarchy but it still feels funny when some guy is shorter than you!

EDIT: Is H your first choice? Sorry, it's a long thread and I'm too lazy to look.

There's some kind of biological factor involved, too. I remember reading an article that said women were genetically wired to be most attracted to men who were their height multiplied by 1.xx (don't remember what the exact number was). I think it worked out to ~6 in. for most heights.

edit: And to answer your question, CLS was my first choice coming into the cycle, but I think a HLS acceptance would make me think twice about that for sure. :) I guess the way I feel about it is that I would go if accepted, but I'm wary of mentally making it my 'first choice' since the odds are so small that I'll actually get in.

It is definitely biological. Women are wired to be attracted to men 5/6 inches taller. Men prefer women 4 inches shorter than them on average. I mean if anything the fact that men like women who have a .7 hip to waist ratio on average should tell you that our mate preferences are biological. This is all cross-cultural.

I'm inferring he doesn't have killer 8-pack abs.

I would be shocked if he did, yes.

He looks slightly younger and slimmer in person than he does in that picture.

I know how you feel. The dreaming hasn't helped. I have the Hamilton but can't quite want it because I want DC. Are you worried about the people at Columbia at all? Part of me can't shake the idea that Harvard/DC is more 'me' and NY is not.

Both the prospective & the current students I met at the CLS ASW were friendly (even though there were a couple of pretty annoying admitted students, haha). I'm not really worried about the people there -- I sat in on a couple classes and the people in them didn't seem gunner-esque or extremely competitive. A couple people answered questions wrong and other people didn't rush to correct them, and people seemed ok with admitting they were uncertain about an issue. I feel the opposite of you in that NY is more 'me' and Harvard isn't.

He isn't very old, is he? He's HLS '06, so that would put him in his early thirties unless he had a long stretch of WE after college.

I wish I could have gotten to the ASWs but am in the UK (on that note I have to go to bed as it is GMT+5 where I am LOL). I think I am just being carried away by TLS and the reality is that the diff won't be enough to make a difference. Lived in NY and liked it but like Boston a lot more. Like DC a lot more than Boston as well so want to maximise my chances in that market.

So conman - did you spot a wedding ring? (since we've abandoned any pretense at detachment?)

Well if you've lived in all of those cities, you're in a great position to evaluate which school would be the best fit for you based on location. Either CLS or HLS would probably get you a job in DC, but HLS obviously transcends CLS in markets other than NY.

and lol @ your wedding ring comment

I sure hope you mean a .7 waist-to-hip ratio. Either that or I'd better start eating a lot more.

(see, Harvard?? I'm good at math, too! You should soooo let me in!)

hahaha, I really hope not a .7 HTW ratio, that would be the most awkward apple shape imaginable
