my application has been under review for about 3 1/2 weeks....this normal?.....this school is a huge reach for me...but my dad went to princeton and is a harvard law alum...and a successful lawyer in his field. i did some research with him last summer...and have some pretty strong addendums. you guys think this will all help strengthen my application?...harvard law school has nothing to prove...they are used to seeing extremely high lsat scores...so perhaps they really analyze each application in order to get a good feel for who is most likely to make a good addition to their program...just a thought.

If daddy is a big donor, it might help a little bit, but Harvard cares very little about legacy (more, maybe, than other schools, but it only helps at the margins). Harvard does care about "who is a good addition to their program"--the people who worked hard in undergrad and scored strongly on the LSAT. And often have a cool life story to go with it.

UR for three and a half weeks with no JR1 email does not necessarily mean rejection, but it's coming close. What are your numbers?

I was hoping for some constructive responses, well I guess I thought wrong. But I am not expecting Harvard to accept me because of legacy...although whatever helps, i don't care. I strongly feel the lsat is not representative of what i know i can achieve in law school...which is why i can assure you i have a pretty strong personal statement, letters of rec., and other addendum..

I think BenJ's response was pretty constructive. It might not be what you want to hear, but it's important to know that all schools (even Harvard) place primary emphasis on GPA and LSAT as predictors of how "good" an addition an applicant will be. Your application will be stronger if you have legal field experience, good LORs and PS etc. than it would be if you lacked those things, but there are GPA and LSAT thresholds below which HLS rarely dips (and lots of applicants combine high numbers with years of relevant experience, glowing recommendations, and so on).

Right...I am aware...my undergraduate gpa is a 3.2...i do not wish to disclose my lsats because i have a minor learning disability which has impeded my ability to perform successfully on standardized tests...hopefully this doesn't immediately disqualify me.. :( probably will nevertheless. A rejection from harvard is not going to be the end of the world for me...many good law schools out there...suffolk law school is also fairly respectable with many career prospects following graduation..

Having a strong personal statement and so on could help you, but it's impossible for anyone to say more without knowing your numbers. It would be misleading to say "yeah, that will help you" if it turns out that you have a 3.3/159. It might be correct to say that stuff will help you if you have a 3.8/172. Nobody can tell you anything without knowing what your numbers are.

This statement should be appended to every single post on TLS.

To Fef619: A 3.2GPA paired with a sub-perfect LSAT score makes admission to Harvard a very difficult proposition. Hope for miracle, but make alternative plans.

Had my JR1 last Tuesday. If I'm going to hear good news, it's likely to happen tomorrow, right? Anyone in the same boat?

Not at all. Some people wait as long as a month between JR1 and JR2. The pace may pick up a bit now that the application deadline has arrived (tomorrow), but not hearing back tomorrow does not at all mean that you're not in.

I'm in the same boat as you. I know that if I don't get the JR2 today, there's still a chance...but that's not going to stop me from sitting at work all day sneaking glances at my cell phone. Good luck!

What are JR1s and JR2s?

Tried searching for definition but it's damn near impossible to sift through these posts.

Thanks.

JR1 = First Harvard interview by Josh Rubenstein
JR2 = Acceptance call from previously mentioned person.

Congrats!

And wow H admissions really seem to be leaning towards the high UGPA this year... seems almost as if they moved the GPA wall from 3.6 to 3.7~3.75

i dont know man, lsn suggests the median will remain at 173.

edit: and it goes without saying that BIG CONGRATS are in order for today's jr2 recipients

yeah i definitely think they're keeping the 173 Median... but also moving up the GPA. I mean the chart for this year shows way less 3.7 & 176+ accepted so far. Or maybe they just admit them after Feb. 1?
