Crackberry and mockstar, I think you guys are the only two left with early submission?

Submitted 10/30, Received 11/2, Complete 11/19. Have heard nothing at all since then. :|

+1, but UR 11/2

+1 but submitted 10/26

I got an e-mail for a phone interview today as well. Anyone have any insight as to what questions are asked, how to prepare, or what the significance is of being selected?

(My apologies if these are questions that have already been answered, but I'm not interested in sifting through 130 pages of a thread.)

It's a very good sign. The questions asked are exactly what he says in the e-mail; it's not supposed to be tricky.

JR1 = phone interview (required for eventual acceptance)
JR2 = acceptance

When did you go complete? What are your stats?

Held today - finally. I'm not sure what took so long, but I'm glad the waiting is over.

I don't think I'll bother to update my file, mainly because, well, I don't really have anything to update it with. I may not withdraw, but I'm not going to bend over backwards for them.

Dont want to be tooo nosy but I've been unavoidably following your posts on here

Why would you ("you", as in, "anyone") gain early SLS access and then take so long for HLS to hold you? I find it plain weird. I'm just intrigued by what HLS finds immediate JR2-worthy other than 4.0/180. Do you plan on mentioning SLS in your LOCI?

Anyway I am struggling to now "give up" all this wasted worry after getting dinged today. I am praying for the rare Y or S or CCN admit. But I am anal and want to find answers to my HLS questions which the board is not providing

If I even bother to send a LOCI, I probably will not mention SLS. That said, I may not even send one. Who knows.

NO JR1 email for me today. Seeing as I missed this URM batch, I'm officially out.

so my UR date is 11/2, but my complete date/email is 11/19. It makes sense that I haven't heard, based on my complete date.

I got a very quick JR1 --> JR2 turnaround with a far-less-than-stellar lsat for HLS (170). If I had to guess what did it, I would say it was my very concrete answers to why HLS (had a wonderful experience at a conference there, talked with current students about opportunities for activism) and what I wanted to do with my law degree. Just a guess!

I am listed as going "under review" on 1/7. I am not listed as going "complete." And I received the e-mail regarding the phone interview this morning (11/5).

As for my stats, my GPA is 3.9 and my LSAT is in the low 170s.

So, I haven't heard anything from Harvard... Should I start getting concerned given my UR date (11/30) and complete date (12/10)?

On LSN I've seen a few people accepted with later dates but haven't seen any rejections either.

SLS favors soft factors and HLS favors numbers. You can see this in the stats..SLS lsat range is "only" 168-172. both columbia and nyu have better lsats.

crackberry went to a very prestigious u-grad which probably helped SLS chances but has a somewhat low LSAT for H

/speculation.

the significance is that 80% or so of JR1 turn into JR2. being in that other 20% is a mystery...some speculate its mostly folks that were borderline/deny in the first place. others speculate it is a "psycho screen" to make sure you don't say something dumb/have some common sense (IE talk up YLS or say you want to go to law school because mommy said to).

You mean you haven't even STARTED getting concerned? You should have started few weeks ago ;)
I have the same dates and haven't hear anything either. Other than a mini miracle, we'll be getting either a hold or a rejection in the next couple of weeks so yeah, go ahead with the "concerned"....

What follows is pure speculation based on what I've observed in this thread.

I suspect that there are at least four different decision paths for applicants:

1. JR, or one of this direct assistants, reviews file and determines that applicant is basically an auto-admit. Without further review, a phone interview is arranged and, absent some obvious psychosis, the applicant is accepted shortly after the interview.

2. JR, or one of this direct assistants, reviews file and determines that applicant, while not strong by HLS standards, is a possible admit. Without further review, a phone interview is arranged. Once the phone interview is complete, the applicant is forwarded to others outside of JR's immediate team (including, perhaps, faculty) for review and comment. Once this stage of review is complete, the applicant is either held or accepted.

3. JR, or one of this direct assistants, reviews file and determines that applicant is a borderline admit. No phone interview is arranged. The applicant is forwarded to others for review. Once this stage of review is complete, the applicant is either denied, held, or, in a few cases, recommended for acceptance. If the applicant is recommended for acceptance, then JR schedules a phone interview.

4. JR, or one of this direct assistants, reviews file and determines that applicant is an auto-deny. Although the denial is not communicated until the batch of denials for that review period (which includes some applicants in group 3) goes out, the decision to deny is made almost immediately.

Applicants in groups 2 and 3 (I think Crackberry was in group 2) are, occasionally, going to have to wait awhile. If, for example, Crackberry's application went to Professor X for review, but Professor X was busy and then left for a long winter break, it could have been weeks before the application was returned to JR. I think it's the "external review" element that accounts for the variability that we've seen in response times.
