Just got my complete e-mail. Let the [my] fretting and incessant e-mail commence! JR1, please? Kthxbye.

My fiancee just got accepted to Harvard Dental School this morning. Man, oh man, do I want to get in. I'll feel way better if she gets into UNC Dental School, because she absolutely loved it there and I loved Duke Law and I got in there last week.

171/3.75/Non-URM, so I'm not terribly optimistic. That said, I had a big upward trend after a poor freshman year (3.9+ GPA sohpmore-senior year and 3.9+ inside 2x major & minor) which I explained away in what I thought was a mature and potentially unique personal statement. It certainly didn't discuss any world-saving accomplishments, but it did address how I matured throughout college, so hopefully the sincere and self-reflective approach will score points.

I think you should have gotten a JR1. But I don't think that means you will necessarily get one. I think I should have at least gotten a JR1 last batch and the fact that I haven't makes me think I won't. (We also got complete emails the same day). Feel free to join Helm and I in (every thread) general despair and loud sighing.
I'm another of the complete email on 11/19. Has anyone in that group had JR1s? If not, there's no reason to despair just yet...
I'm a bit confused. My status checker has said I'm under review since 11/23.
However, I just got an email saying I was complete. Is this standard? I would have thought I'd go from complete to under review, and not vice versa.

the neuroticism on this board is amazing. since when did median/median become borderline?

My understanding is that we don't even know Harvard's current medians, just the 75th/25th... am I wrong? I have a feeling that I'm probably slightly below the new medians in one or both areas... thus the borderline categorization. Plus, my LSAT is a retake...

i was using the numbers from LSN. i am not sure if those are true though, so maybe you are right (the HLS info page)

i wish this was the case, but it says Class of 2009, which i assume means the class that entered in 2007, aka three cycles ago...

in general, you are right about the level of neuroticism on this board, though, at least some of which i am complicit with... there would be no point to this place without it.

yep, the numbers on LSN are a bit outdated. a lot of schools' numbers have gone up since then. you're going to find more accurate ones on the TLS rankings page here http://www.top-law-schools.com/rankings.html, although this shows only 25/75 and not medians

i know the LSAT median for last year's admission class was 173; i'm not sure what the GPA median was. in any case, it seems a lot more possible for the GPA median to go up again than for the LSAT median to. comparatively speaking there are just far more applicants out there with GPAs above HLS's current median than LSATs above it. so i don't think i'd be fretting too much about the LSAT median rising to 174 (although i suppose it's possible).

Has anyone updated their file with Harvard while under review? For what it's worth, I've been under review for quite awhile. I received the "complete" email roughly one month ago, but never had a follow up JR1. My numbers are both near the 25th percentile, so it's to be expected.

I do have something I'd like to update in my file, however. At the risk of 'outing' myself, I'll say that my personal statement focused on my experience with creating a nonprofit organization. At the time of my application, our 501 (c)(3) status was pending and it was noted as such in my personal statement. Several weeks ago were approved as a fully recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization :). Would it be worth updating them? If so, what is the proper protocol?

Thanks!

I went complete 11/19 as well. No JR1. Another member on TLS (not gonna out him) also went complete 11/19 with no JR1.

Bleh. People posting that they received JR1's without listing their numbers should be a bannable offense.

Sounds like they're sending batches of JR1s out from people UR 11/23. That's quite unfortunate for me, I guess. I've been UR since the 2nd week of November.

And Fancy Pants.. doing some quick research, they both are under our #s. :(

Darn. UR 11/20, Complete today (12/1), no JR1. sucks.

For the record, 177 LSAT, GPA just over 25th.

Question for all: my impression (based on the admittedly small amount of research I've done) is that it seems like JR1s are going to those who are hitting median or better on both stats; lopsided LSATs/GPA weighting seems to be a little bit slower to hear back.

Does this sound reasonable at all, or am I just getting my hopes up?

There doesn't seem to be any pattern.

I think the fact that they are picking up where they left off (sending JRs to people who went UR too soon to the first batch of JR2s) and ignoring people who have been UR for a month and already received complete emails.... bad news bears.

smartphones are the worst thing when you're waiting for e-mail...especially an interview e-mail you're not sure you're even going to get!

It's true. Everytime I see the little e-mail symbol pop up, my heart jumps. Eventually, I've gotten really bitter at my professors/school/other law schools e-mailing me and contributing to my disappointment. It will all be okay if I see an email from Harvard.

Does everyone go from Received --> Under Review before their JR1? How long does it usually take get to Under Review from when you submit?

Thanks!
