Yeah, but if they were going to give you the axe, they would probably already have done it.

I think it's like a fractal. You can't see the pattern if your view is too limited.

Here's my advice, for what it's worth:

1. Try to relax. Obsessing over the odds is not going to improve them. Que sera sera, so to speak.

2. If it's just that important to you to go to Harvard, there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't tentatively plan on applying again next year, provided you can do something productive with yourself in the meantime. One year is insignificant compared to the course of your career.

3. Bear in mind that Harvard has a history of waitlisting a slew of applicants starting on tax day. They also, historically speaking, waitlist many times more students than their yield warrants. The waitlist has lingered on until late in the summer, and only a tiny fraction of waitlisted applicants have been offered admission. So if you don't end up making the waitlist, you can (perhaps?) solace yourself with the very real possibility that outright rejection is actually the more humane fate.

Good luck to all of you still waiting for a decision.

+1 on this. I'd rather get the axe than languish on a waitlist all summer only to be rejected in August. That being said, it seems like their last rounds of rejections are over and I haven't gotten one, so I'll probably be a Tax Day waitlister.

Enjoying my last real day of possibly being in contention for a HLS seat. 8)

How would Asha have an intimate knowledge of the HLS admissions process? Unless she uses her FBI connections to uncover her chief rival's secrets...

I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only hold who is completely and totally losing his or her cool. I'm resigned to the inevitable WL, but can't give up hope just yet.

You are definitely not the only hold who is completely and totally losing your cool.

I wonder why tax day = WL day for schools (I've heard this about more than just Harvard).

Also, LSN needs to update its info! They still have Toby Stock listed as dean.

I don't know, but luckily for me it's also "visit Columbia day", which will sting the inevitable blow a bit.

But still- LAME.

CLS will make you feel better for sure--I wish I hadn't already visited in March so I would have something to look forward to on WL day.

I'm considering this actually. Am actually sending out resumes now. I feel like I could be better prepared if I'd started earlier, possibly re-took the LSAT (I really don't want to though), did something interesting for a year, or just wrote better essays...Being abroad since June really screwed with my LS app process.

Are you HLS-or-bust, or do you just not like any of the other options you have for next fall?

I'm not absolutely in love with any of my other options for next fall. I might've been but NYU didn't give me enough money.

Plus, the moment last week at CLS ASD when I questioned my decision to be a lawyer has been coming back to me a lot recently. I also still don't have an answer when people ask me what kind of lawyer I want to be. So I'm thinking perhaps a year to experiment in foreign policy/consulting/whathaveyou won't be bad...

Most people don't know what kind of lawyer they want to be. A lot of them think they do, but let's be honest - none of us (or very few, anyway) really knows what s/he's talking about.

otoh, if you're not sure you want to be an attorney at all, I'm not sure you want to be taking on a bunch of debt to go to a school you're not gung ho about. Maybe waiting a year to think it over and reapply is a good idea.

They waitlisted and rejected people into May last cycle. That's cruel and unusual, especially for people who escaped the 4/15 & 4/16 bloodbath and might have thought they had a chance at a late acceptance.

JR, if you're reading this, you know who I am, and I am destined for WL or rejection, please do it tomorrow for the sake of my sanity.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
