Re: In at UC Hastings!!
I went complete Dec 11 and just found out on Wednesday. IN! Likely can't afford it, but it's nice to have a decision anyway. Anyone know about merit / financial aid packages yet?

In, submitted 1/27, heard back a little more than a week ago.

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
Question for those who've been admitted:
Is the 32k price tag causing anyone to take a stronger look at T2 options like Loyola and San Diego?
LLS and USD are around 35-37k right and their scholarship packages for the average Hastings admit should be over 15k per year.
I am thinking the better employment outlook for Hastings grads will still cause me to attend UCH but I still have my doubts about the price tag.

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
Probably won't end up going to Hastings, but the pricetag has no influence on me at all. The 15k is easily made up if you finish in top 50% of hastings. My good friend just graduated from there. He said top 50% easily found pretty good jobs. And trust me, he is more than making up for the 45k a year he would get going to USD or LLS.swheat wrote:Question for those who've been admitted:

Its harder for bottom 50% of class, more government jobs, but I think 15k a year is definitely not worth skipping hastings to go to USD. If you want to work in CA, hastings has an excellent reputation.

From looking at the Hastings' career stats it looks like top 50% is good for mid- to big-law right? According to that 47% of the class ended up with private firms at an average of $125k.

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
first, you should wait until you hear from hastings about grants.
assuming you don't get one, and you got 15k scholly from the t2s, you'll be saving approx 10k/yr. i don't think this is that much in the big picture. i think hastings is superior enough compared to lls and sd to make it worth it.

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
I like what I'm hearing.
Anyone going to the LSAC Forum in SF on Monday? I signed up but I don't see much reason to attend since I've been accepted to UCH and I will most likely attend there.
Besides I've had enough with the harassing emails from Golden Gate and OK City Law wanting me to visit their tables. I'd rather not be harassed in person as well.

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
hey, sw, can i ask you... where are good places for hastings students to live? i've been browsing some prices and sf is an expensive city. i live in la myself, but i'll be downgrading my lifestyle significantly during law school. i'd like somewhere where i can park my car (street or garage) for no significant additional cost and would probably take public transportation to class everyday. (maybe this should go in the hastings 2012 thread.)

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
I live in Dublin which is in the East Bay. It's on the BART line so I plan on taking that every day. You can get decent 1 BR apartments in the East Bay for 950-1300. You can go cheaper if you live in more dangerous areas like Oakland, Hayward, San Leandro.
Where I live is pretty much suburbia and my apartment is $1250 a month. I'd like to move to SF but theres pretty much nowhere with parking and most places are way over $1500. If you want to live as close to SF as possible AND have parking I would recommend looking into the areas just south of SF. Pacifica, Daly City, Redwood City, San Bruno, etc. I think you can find decent apartments there for 1200-1400 with parking. And most of these areas have either BART or Caltrain to SF.

Re: In at UC Hastings!!
from where I am, probably about 45 min to an hour, wait times included. I am sure it is alot shorter from Daly City, etc.
EDIT: You can go on the BART website and see the schedules to know exactly how long.
