To the Seattle U. comment: They are not going to be "climbing the rankings" probably for the rest of their existence. I predict that they will never reach the 60's and maybe top out in the high 70's. They are not that great and there are just too many good schools out there that are better. Trust me on this one, I know that school very well.

Great! Hmmmm......I didn't know there WERE mini info sessions........update me? Also, is Willamette one of your top choices? Where else did you apply? They've been very nice so far.

Willamette's either my #1 or #2... depends on $$ and whether or not L&C accepts me. I live in Portland now and can't really move at this point, so will commute if I have to. In fact, I've even considered commuting to Eugene for U of O if for some reason L&C and Willamette don't pan out... yeah, fun... my brother lives there, though, so at least I'd have a place to crash!

The mini info sessions they're offering are:

Family Law
International Law
Law and Government
Law Student Life
Sustainability Law

Oregon native--If I go to school in OR L&C and UO are my picks...for some reason I don't think Willamette sounds interesting either::but maybe thats because I live near salem....

As far as what mini-sections I'll go to, I'll probably hit up the government and the criminal law sections.

I contacted the dean and got the following information:

Dear ME,

I really appreciate your patience as we go through the admissions cycle this year. We have not yet made any final decisions on applicants, but we hope to soon as we are deep into the review process at this point. Historically, our decision making window is February through May. Given when you applied, I would assume you'd be reviewed/notified sooner than later, but of course I cannot guarantee anything beyond the February to May window. I hope this helps!

Thanks....just curious, when did you receive this and when did you go complete?

It seems like lots of schools require seat deposits sometime in April. Is it just a fact of applicant/admissions life that you may have to bail on a school after your've paid the seat deposit? If UofO is sending out letters that late, it seems like it could put some pressure on folks (like me) who have applied to the three Oregon law schools.

I was complete sometime in November and sent them addendum whem my December LSAT was considerably higher than the first score. I was just curious because I see lots of people from the previous year from lots of schools getting accepted late April on LSN. Anywho, of the schools I think I have a shot at, UofO is one of my top picks, if not the top.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I'm close to the editor in chief of the law review at Oregon and she has really enjoyed her experience at the school. I've been there several times, and I've always got a good feeling about it.

When did you apply? I applied in October and expect to hear back within 2 weeks (educated guess).

I applied in mid December and every one I have talked to at U of O has basically told me they don’t even look at Apps till feb... So I think I got a while...

Yeah I wish I had gotten my apps off sooner... These waits are killing me... U of O better let me know before then I need to know what my options are before seat deposit deadlines start coming up.

They said in the confirmation e-mail they don't start looking at apps until February. If you look at LSN over the past few years, the earliest people found out was in the fourth week of February. The earlier you applied, the earlier you found out. I'm guessing that trend will continue.

Is anyone else turned off by this?

It’s pretty ridiculous how late they start reviewing simply because it really doesn’t give you that much time to consider them before you have to make a decision and start paying deposits... I find it a little frustrating...

I think they're doing it to keep an eye on their yield. Wouldn't most people bound for the Berkleys and Harvards of the world know by late February? Maybe this gives them a better view of who would accept an offer of admission.

The waiting does suck, though, no two ways about that.

I think that YP is a big part of it. Many people will withdraw by February without U of O every having to accept them. It improves acceptance rate (makes it look lower) and yield (makes it higher).
