yeah but someone who went to ASD said that the FAID people said scholly $ would be decided later this week. I just hope we find out with some advance notice to the April 01 seat deadlines.colemf wrote:This is good news.madmartigan wrote:Haha, I PM'ed him and asked him to answer some questions in the UH thread I just rejuvenated in the 'Discuss your School' section.colemf wrote:Could you answer some of our questions now?

My acceptance says the seat deposit is due by 4/15/2010.

true, but a lot of the other schools I'm considering have 04/01 seat deposits. It would be nice to have the $ angle worked out before 04/01.colemf wrote:My acceptance says the seat deposit is due by 4/15/2010.

If I don't hear back by 31 March, I'm withdrawing. No questions asked, terminating my application "with extreme prejudice," so to speak.madmartigan wrote:true, but a lot of the other schools I'm considering have 04/01 seat deposits. Can't justify UH once I drop seat deposits elsewhere. It's a fine school, but it's not like it's HYSCCNBMVP where you'd feel good giving up $500 or more in deposits for other schools to get in there. Not anti-UH trolling -- I wouldn't have applied if I weren't interested -- but come on, Coogs.

Soooo....if seat deposits are due 4/15, and my app is still complete (i.e. pending review hopefully) should I assume that they are waiting to receive seat deposits before I'll hear an answer?

Sorry, I don't troll the forums like I did before I was a law student. I've bookmarked the "View your posts" link and I just check that every once in awhile to see if there's new posts in the thread I've already commented in.colemf wrote:Could you answer some of our questions now?
I posted a reply in the other thread now though, so now I'll check that one too.

I was accepted last week but I am waiting on a packet in the mail. How long did that take for those who have been accepted?

Also, it looks like another scholly cropped up on LSN... Still strange there are only 2 (1 from weeks ago and 1 from today).

This would not make sense if you had your application in by the deadline. It would basically be like a back office waitlist (that you would never know about). They will probably put you in review soon I would think in order to at least have a grip on where you would be on the ladder of acceptances. When did you send your app in? And are the numbers competitive?raperez129 wrote:Soooo....if seat deposits are due 4/15, and my app is still complete (i.e. pending review hopefully) should I assume that they are waiting to receive seat deposits before I'll hear an answer?

Could those be fake? I was under the impression that no one at UH was getting offered schollys, or even any kind of financial aid info, until after the first deposit.madmartigan wrote:about a week.egb23 wrote:I was accepted last week but I am waiting on a packet in the mail. As you can imagine, I'm really turned off by Houston because of this. Other, more highly-ranked schools have sent scholarship notification with acceptance letters, and several of the schools I've applied to have already processed my FAFSA and guaranteed loans.
The common perception of UH is that it's a good deal for the money, and has the intrinsic advantage of feeding into the Houston legal market... but I'm not really sure what to believe right now.

No wonder you were impressed, it pretty much crashed and burned at the financial aid part.Bustang wrote:I left before the fin. aid part.colemf wrote:Did they say anything about when scholarships are going out?

My app went in 3/1, after the Feb LSAT scores were released. I think my numbers are fairly competative for the PT program. Law School Predictor says that for the PT program, my numbers are equal to or better than 30% of the admitted students. That puts me near the bottom, but not out of range. Plus I'm hoping my softs can bump me a bit. I am also a URM.

Maybe they want to get rid of people like me. I want to be bought with convincing scholarship offers. I guess I will just end up withdrawing or not paying the deposit.TCS wrote:Could those be fake? Is it safe to assume there will be no activity in the admissions department this week?
I'd rather save myself the constant status checks if so!
I'm a PT applicant 159/3.5, file complete since 2/3.

I would bet there will still be decisions this week. I don’t see most of the facility having spring break off. But it according to LSN it looks like the majority of decisions are made at UofH on Thursdays and Fridays if that helps at all.rdcws000 wrote:Is it safe to assume there will be no activity in the admissions department this week?

Re: In at University of Houston
I have seen conflicting information so I spent this morning on the phone with UH...
The Fin Aid dept says they haven't started looking at FASFA forms yet. They are supposed to start in mid-April and they plan on releasing need-based aid in May. So we won't know anything before seat deposit.
The Law Center Admissions Office said in regard to scholly $, that they plan on awarding $ in 2 weeks. Then again, they've been saying that for a month now.

I was told the same thing. Like I said before, it's as if they don't want competitive students to go there. The other schools I'm considering have seat deposits due April 1st. SMU's scholarship awards were released a while ago and they were pretty generous from what I gathered, their seat deposit date is April 1.madmartigan wrote:I have seen conflicting information so I spent this morning on the phone with UH...

If UH isn't going to release scholarship info until late March, they are definitely going to be losing or aggravating a number of students who would otherwise go there if they knew what deal they were being offered.

Re: In at University of Houston
I just spoke to someone from admissions who said they send out an acceptance letter and a scholarship letter right after the admissions decision is made. I got in a week ago but haven't received any letter from them. And I had heard they didn't make scholarship offers until after the deposit deadline. She made it sound like they were mailed. There is obviously a lot of different info out there.
Did the lady have no idea what she was talking about? How long has it taken people to receive an admissions letter after acceptance via status checker?

It took me about a week to get the letter after the status update on the web.egb23 wrote:I just spoke to someone from admissions who said they send out an acceptance letter and a scholarship letter right after the admissions decision is made. i also just got a response from someone that said 2 waves of scholly $ has gone out, and that it is issued on a rolling basis. I give up.

Assuming that you had to pay sticker tuition for each, heaven forbid, and assuming that you're in-state Texas, wouldn't you pay $5k more for SMU's 5% higher NLJ250 placement versus Houston? I would. And it's hardly as if an SMU JD keeps you out of the Houston market. The hell that it does.TCS wrote:Could those be fake? Yes, Houston is good ... it ain't good enough to string us out like this, though.
