Can anyone provide thoughts on campus/location, spending 3 years at Newark, NJ? I haven't had a chance to visit them yet but I may be applying but want to know what people think of the place.

8) Woot, me too. 161, 2.87 in-state. I went complete on November 5.

Bobo; Newark isn't the nicest city. That said the campus is located in the nicer part of the city. I've got a friend who goes there for undergrad and he said the area around campus can be sketchy but the campus itself is safe. Between the Rutgers cops, Newark cops, and Port Authority cops he feels pretty safe once he is on campus.

Having gone to Seton Hall for undergrad, which is right on the Newark city line, Newark is a pretty unattractive city. I don't specifically know the area around Rutgers Newark, but having been around the area where SHU Law is in Newark I think that living in the area just takes some getting used to. You just need to be cautious and not put yourself anywhere near being in a vulnerable situation. Anyone with the means to commute into Newark can find affordable apartments (for northern NJ) a fifteen minute car ride away if you're looking in the right place. Newark certainly wouldn't be my first choice (or even top 5) in terms of where I'd like to live for law school, even though I'm slightly familiar with the area, but I'm also not originally from NJ.

Then again, I'm applying to Rutgers Camden, which is well, Camden.

jpasqu1, are you in full-time? I'm 161/3.21 in-state, and starting to freak out because it seems everyone has been getting acceptance emails today - I've got nothing from them in my inbox :(

Then again, I only went complete 11/25 or so. Has anyone been accepted who went complete around that time?

Rutgers is three or four blocks from SHU Law.

Thanks, everyone!! I agree, the city of Newark isn't the best....but the opportunities are amazing. Really close to Manhattan (hint hint....big law firms), and the Ironbound district is a LOT of fun. Lots of Portuguese restaurants (we were big on karaoke there during undergrad), and the Ironbound is a much safer neighborhood. I had a car, because I commuted from Jersey City, so it may have been different for me. Although some of my friends lived in the dorms and took mass transit everywhere, and never had a problem =)

That's weird...must be different emails. Thanks for the info, I will be attending in that case. Does your email say when the event is expected to end?
