Hiii, I'm new to TLS, but I've immersed myself in this site for the past few weeks or so as I'll be applying to schools in the Fall. Thanks to everyone for sharing your stories. I'd like to hear any insights on my admissions prospects that you can offer me.

These are my stats: GPA 3.9 and URM. I'm taking a prep class now so what is the minimum score I should aim for in order to have a shot at HLS?

BTW congrats to everyone who has been accepted! Reading your stories has definitely motivated me to endure, be persistent, and remain hopeful!

(I'm hoping my username will be predictive of my achievements in 2012!) :lol:

There was no email for the acceptance call today. Completely just out of nowhere. And it was after business hours on the East Coast.

With a 3.9 there isn't a minimum LSAT to apply- I know 2 black women waitlisted at HLS with >3.85gpa who both had LSATs of 155 and 156 (to be fair, they went to Stanford and Harvard UG). I imagine if they'd been over 160 they'd have had a real shot, over 165 they'd be in.

It's hard to give a minimum, but the black students I know at HLS have LSAT scores ranging from low 160s to high 170s. If you're interested in Harvard, apply no matter what you get, but if you break 165 I'd say you were sitting pretty. That's anecdotal; I would say you should look at LawSchoolNumbers for something more concrete, but unfortunately there isn't much data for URMs w/ 3.9 gpas (or URMs accepted to HLS at all).

If you don't have a personal contact, the best thing to do is reach out to Harvard BLSA: http://www.law.harvard.edu/students/orgs/blsa/ They have a great section on their site for prospective students and they are available to talk with applicants.

EDIT: Apologies for tailoring my response to black females, but that is the cohort with which I am most familiar. :D If you aren't black, reach out to the student org that represents your identity at HLS and they likely can advise you further. Good luck!

ahh...do you think this acceptance call means that some of us might hear something this week? Or just that they only had one spot open up for someone who had already had a TS1? Do you think any of us waitlisted, non-TS1'ers have a chance? :-)

Well, congrats, sorry to hear that, and thanks all in one post. May be the first time that has ever happened. I'm happy with my situation, but haven't completely given up on H yet.
