I figured this one was way overdue, so even though I'm not the greatest with coding and whatnot, I figured I'd give it a shot so that we'll be able to use this as a resource going through the cycle.

Knight-Hennessy for me too, but I think that's totally out of range for me. Other dreamers in this thread?

For people who wrote the optional essays for Stanford did you choose to write two different topics or just one. I wrote a good one for the topic about 3 songs but I'm unsure if I should write another because I don't think it'll be as good.

I just did one for that exact reason- really liked my answer and was worried doing another list would be repetitive but didn't have a good answer for the non-list ones.

I wrote two. I don't think you can go wrong with just one well-written one. If they are actually using these essays in any sort of decision-making capacity, it's just to get a sense of how well you write, and one well-written mini essay is plenty to demonstrate this.

Also, my little theory is that they aren't actually using the essays this year. I think they might just be collecting data so that next year they can include a more serious optional essay.

Hey jimmy, do you mind PM'ing me this essay? I have my answers for this question but the general gist of my answer is pretty casual. I'm a bit worried that they are too casual.

Anyone down to do some speculation about the K-H thing? Do you think they have in mind a more or less precise number of spots for every graduate/professional program? If so, how many spots for the JD?

To what extent will that be number-driven? I think no more than 10-20%. Are they looking for unicorn softs?

Also, are you all US citizens? Because it seems we have different shares in this program!

For people writing two optional essays, are you submitting as one document or two? There's no preference listed on their site or on LSAC.

I just used one word document for both essays.

My guess is that they'll want some JDs with every class, maybe as many as 6-7 when the full class size kicks in (which would keep JDs in proportion to the rest of the grad population). I think how they actually select scholars is anyone's guess. I doubt anyone gets it without some killer softs or at least a killer combination of softs. Pretty much everyone who gets into Stanford will have great numbers, so I can't imagine numbers will be a huge part of it.

And yeah, I'm a US citizen.

Would anyone mind sharing their optional essay about the three songs? I'm having a ton of trouble trying to gauge the appropriate style, tone, formality, and so on. Dying over here...

Nobody can tell you exactly what they're looking for because it's the first year this has been introduced. But don't overthink it:) My take was to write succinctly, but to be pretty informal. The prompts are relaxed, so it doesn't seem like they're expecting anything too academic
