A friend (now a Boalt 2L) told me she intentionally missed her call so she can save the voicemail. Now she plays it on her bad days. So yeah dude, congrats--now save that voicemail!cwasser3 wrote:Just got in!! Missed the call but the dean left a sweet message.

Nope! Been UR1 since like 11/1 with no changes, so I was super surprised to get the call. I figured no RDs would go out before the EDs, but surprise! Re: Berkeley Law c/o 2021 Applicants (2017-2018)
I'm going to give you my personal opinion. I know many other people have general law school advice that conflicts with the advice below, but I think Berkeley is a unique case.Wakhancorridor wrote:dietcoke1 wrote:going to just about any law school at sticker price is not a wise financial decisionannazork wrote:People who have gotten straight P's still land Big Law, yes.
AaronCarter wrote:Would you say going to Berkeley at sticker is a wise financial choice?TrustMeImALawStudent wrote:I'm also at Berkeley Law. I'll try to chip in to answer questions, too.
Also, for students who are at median at Berk, are they still able to land 160k+ jobs with relative ease?
Don't go to law school unless you're getting a good discount. The more debt you have, the more doors you close several years out of law school
I think going to Berkeley *is* worth sticker, but *only* because it remains a T14 *and* we have our own public interest loan forgiveness program *and* because folks who don't go the public interest route go clerkship or big law. Sprinkle in a fantastic location and amazing alumni network, and many 3Ls who land big law jobs with P's, and I would go to Berkeley Law at sticker as long as I was positive I wanted to work in the legal field long-term.
As I was preparing to apply to law school, I read a bazillion articles on the state of legal education and I am well aware of all of the arguments against going to law school at sticker, which I think are totally valid, but I think Berkeley Law (and other top law schools) are in a unique situation that makes it worth it. To be transparent, I was awarded about a 50% scholarship, so I didn't have to actually make that decision, but I did turn down full-rides from lower ranked schools in the 15s-30s and I will still have lots of debt to deal with.
Also, I want to note that a lot of people at Berkeley, despite it's public interest-y and left-y image, seem to come from hella wealthy families. Nobody flaunts wealth here, so you don't realize it at first--until spring break or the holidays arrive and you see their vacay pics. I only mention this because I think quite a few people paying sticker at Berkeley don't have to actually care about the price as much as more average folk do. So if you ask people at Berkeley if sticker price is worth it, that might influence their opinion.
