Congrats to those who received JS1s as well. As for others, best of luck!

Is there any evidence that an early JS1 increases the chances of admission?

Submitted - 9/16
Complete - I think a week after that
JS1 - 11/1
Not URM
Not on East Coast
No email about GREs
Stats: GPA below 25th, LSAT right above median

Looking at the JS1 waves from last year, it looks like they'll be coming at a pretty steady weekly pace from here on out, so do not fret anyone who missed the very first wave today (myself included).

I told myself the same thing, but I'm still going home and wallowing in my despair, relentlessly rereading my app like an Ex's texts, desperately looking to see where I went wrong

I’ll throw a +180 on that

Applied last week and my application finally went complete yesterday so I'm not too bummed about this wave, here's hoping for many more!

Does it seem like getting the email on October 31st is a good sign even for those who didn't get a JS1 yet?

On the bright side, all of us numbers twins were kept out on this round- looks like they went for super high LSATs generally? Got me feeling a retake lol.

I don't think a retake is necessary, I think we're probably still good. But I agree, from what I can tell this first wave was > both 75th's.

Agree this isn't a sign to retake  But also there are at least two people who are <75ths. Could be URMs though

Congrats to the first wave of JS1s!! Some of you have CRAZY good numbers - wow. I'm at 75th for GPA but between 25th and median for LSAT so.....starting to worry a bit.

So...should I retake the GRE if my scores from like 4 years ago are much worse than my LSAT scores?

This is just my opinion but I wouldn't worry too much, they probably understand that you weren't planning on using those scores for any sort of law school, especially considering they weren't even taking GRE scores at the time. I'd say as long as your LSAT score speaks for itself, you'll be ok

Thank you for calming my neuroticism. I felt unsure after HLS specifically requested all GRE scores in that email, especially since when I checked their website in September they did not specify they wanted these scores in addition to the LSAT. Maybe they're just collecting data. Anyways, good luck to you this cycle!

Thanks, you too! They probably just sent out a mass email because they'd been getting hundreds of questions about it haha

I think the policy of collecting all scores comes out of fairness to those people who wish they could only report their GRE. When you transmit your application, all LSAT scores are provided to the school, regardless of whether or not you plan on submitting your GRE. I think the policy is an attempt to even things out.

That being said, whether it will affect you or not will I think depend on two things: (1) Was the GRE taken for another purpose than law school or is it old? It sounds like in your case you can explain that you never planned on showing the GRE to law schools.

And (2) can GRE scores affect their USNWR ranking score? USNWR is using median GRE scores (if reported by school) in their ranking methodology. (See https://www.usnews.com/education/best-g ... ethodology.)

Will Harvard report GRE scores to USNWR? Will they only report GRE scores if an applicant has no LSAT score? Is the Analytical Writing section used by USNWR or just Verbal/Quant? Lots of unknowns.

Well, now I'm worried again. I think you make good points. I included an addendum making it clear this GRE was not intended for LS, especially since LS never even took GRE back then. I was thinking of doing a masters, and the grad programs only cared about one section, plus you could select which sittings you wanted to send (unlike LSAT where you have to send all). So like I took the GRE basically cold the first time as a diagnostic. I explain all of this in the addendum, and I'm confident that HLS would be understanding of this.

The thing that originally worried me was what you pointed out in (2). USNWR appears to indeed factor in GRE into their rankings, as I believe they did for Arizona last year. I am worried now that since I have to report an old GRE score, I would bring down HLS median GRE, which I think would negatively impact their ranking.

As you said, the big unknown is if an applicant with an LSAT and a GRE only has his/her LSAT score considered, or if HLS is obligated to report both to USNWR.

If it's the latter, then I feel compelled to retake the GRE so that I am no longer a LSAT/GRE splitter. Which is ironic since HLS instituted the GRE pilot program to relieve the burden of standardized test taking.
