Any thoughts on whether there will be a wave of acceptances this week?

Look at previous years' threads? I would imagine some decisions are made early December before everyone goes on vacation. I think I got my initial decision many moons ago during the first week of December. So it's certainly plausible.

My status checker page had a tone of text in a box up top, but that disappeared a few days ago. Did anyone else notice this? Good omen? Bad omen?

Got my packet in the mail today. Any thoughts on Anita Krug (interim dean)?

What are you asking for when you say "thoughts"? Krug is a good professor and as far as I know handled her previous administrative roles at the law school well. I graduated when she became interim dean earlier this year so unclear on her stewardship.

Just the type of influence she'll have on the university and what not

Still not really clear on what you're asking. Graduate and professional programs are what make UW prestigious, so the law school itself is always important to the UW.

I submitted 12/7, complete 12/8 and just went under review 12/18. It looks like they are getting back fairly quickly under the circumstances. Hopefully, I'll know in <4 weeks it states.

The acceptance numbers look very interesting with some red where I'd expect yellow and yellow where I'd expect red. I checked URM applicants and it's clear it's not just a numbers game as this is true for both URM and non URM candidates. I have unusual stats, so it'll be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Thanks for being willing to answer questions! What can I expect from my first quarter at UW? Also, what's the best way to start preparing for jobs if I want to work in a city or county government or non profit?

It will be similar to most other law schools, since 1L curriculum is pretty micro-managed by the ABA. You'll have a week of orientation, you'll get your section and books, you'll jump right into reading and the Socratic method in many classes, and you'll be learning how to do research in your legal writing class. Student orgs will recruit 1Ls for their boards like crazy during the first couple of weeks and hold lots of events to boost interest. Usually they're at lunch and food is provided, so lots of opportunities for free food. Around October 15 they'll open up Symplicity to you so you can start looking at 1L summer jobs. A handful get posted this early but not tons, so don't worry. Then in late October you'll start preparing for the 1L mock trial competition, which is in November. That will wrap up toward the middle of November, and then you'll be trying to get ready for finals as Thanksgiving rolls around, and before you know it, you'll be taking law school finals and freaking out.

In the background, if you're interested in working at certain federal agencies/offices for the summer, many hire 1L summers during December, particularly the local USAO (for Western District of Wash.). So amidst all of the above you'll want to have been working on your resume and networking when you can.

1) Figure out what you want to do at a non-profit or at a local government. There are a lot of different things you could be doing. prosecutor? public defender? civil litigation? regulatory stuff? policy? In the non-profit world, it could be virtually anything. Disability rights, immigration, legal aid, environmental law (either filing comments on new regs or litigating, or both, or policy), and much more. You'll have to narrow this down somewhat.

2) Research the entity/organization doing what you want to do, and find out what opportunities they offer for law students. Sometimes it's on the website. Or you can ask me here, or another UW student. Generally, most will take summer clerks, and they will take externs during the year, and they generally will not pay you.

3) Apply to work for them when the application opens. Before the application opens, network with them. Sometimes they'll be at events the law school hosts. If not, or if it's too far in the future, use your UW Law professional mentor or career services to connect you with someone. Worst case scenario, cold call and ask to meet for lunch or coffee to learn more about what they do. They'll be happy to talk about themselves and their work in most cases.
