Seems like it was just a small wave for a fellowship interview

Someone on reddit said they went complete 1/4 or something!

Feeling targeted by Columbia repeatedly not targeting me in any of these waves. Target me but don't target me, you know what I'm saying?

That may be the case. Also a URM and got in with the fellowship nomination. Interviewed early December.

How frequently do waves for Columbia occur? It seems like NYU has waves almost every day. Don't know if I should just give up and assume that it may be another month till I hear back.

It seems that way from who posted today and from the person on reddit who posted too. Also a URM here but have not heard anything back. But I guess I'm not the most traditional URM student.

But like, this shit's expensive. Especially NYC. A tuition half-ride is still going to put you into 6 figures of debt once you add in CoL, and depending on your goals, that can still be really tough to stomach from any school once you start hashing out the payback plan in some detail. So like, yeah. IMO it's fine to not just want a half ride or even to be disappointed if that's "all" you get if your personal situation warrants it.

You said it much nicer than I could. Glad someone else understands where I'm coming from.

Yeah, I felt like a shitty little brat yesterday when after my acceptance I was like "i have butler numbers, why didn't they give one to me???" But hey, I don't come from money and I worked my ass off for those numbers, so disappointment isn't ENTIRELY unwarranted. Just don;'t be an ass about it.

BTW, congrats to everyone who got in today!!!! You all rock hard. 8)

Can someone tell me the type of numbers you need to receive a Butler as opposed to a Hamilton?

I think the consensus is that Hamilton requires 3.9+/175+, while butler is like 3.8+/172+...correct me if i'm incorrect...

I got a Hamilton this year with a 174 and no hooks at all (other than not being K-JD, if that counts). My GPA was lower than 3.9 but was still in the top 10% of the class at one of HYPS. Perhaps I am an outlier, but I am saying this simply because I assumed the same as you did and thus had no expectation of any merit aid at all. Obviously I was totally floored when I received the Hamilton.

There is still hope for the sub-175 crowd!

Hamilton is 3.8+. Seen a couple people with 3.81 (my GPA) who got Hamiltons.

Damn, I just feel dejected right now. I never thought I had a chance in hell at admission, but I threw an app Columbia's way because I got a fee waiver for military service. A straight up rejection would never have surprised me.

However, I just saw that my doppelganger (damn near exactly the same stats, both Army veterans, both non-URM) got accepted today. With the other veterans that I've seen get admitted today, it makes me feel like my chance has passed; that they combed through the veteran applications and made their selections. Others have better stats than me and have certainly earned their admission, but it's definitely painful to watch your clone get accepted while you feel like you missed the opportunity of a lifetime.

Yeah and I was 4.0/173 and got nada. So you're right that it's not just a numbers game, though I have the feeling I would have gotten a butler if I weren't kjd.

When do I give up and accept Columbia just doesn't like me for some reason? Someone posted on reddit today that if you applied early/mid november (like me) and don't hear back in the first few waves (like me. sigh) you're not getting in

Yeah really not seeing how one redditor would have the inside track on admissions.

I haven't heard anything yet, either, and we have similar stats and submission dates (not that I've been following you LSN or anything ahah). I am going to assume that we both aren't Columbia repellent and, rather, that there is some money waiting for us a little more down the line.

Or, a girl can hope, anyway. :X

seeing a bit of "proof" of lsn and some rando piping off on reddit isn't enough to lose hope

This cycle is breaking some trends. By the available data, a super splitter with my numbers was a consistent admit, usually with $$$, at Alabama and Minnesota, but I'm riding both waitlists, along with pretty much all the other major splitters who applied to those. There are plenty of changes to the timing of decisions, too, with most of those beings shifts towards later answers.

The past is not predictive.

Accepted today and nominated for a Richard Paul Richman Leadership Fellowship. Anyone know what this fellowship is and what the chances are of receiving the fellowship after being nominated? The email says the fellowship provides at least $65k across 3 years, anyone know how often people get more than $65k... and how much more they get?

I think this is the inaugural year. So everyone is in the dark!

Someone on lsn mentions it in their profile, but they don't go into much detail about it (including whether they went through with the interview).
