These waivers made my day. Anyone else got an email from Columbia? I didn't see the fee waivers for Columbia

Got an unsolicited Cornell waiver after they denied my request a few days ago. Is this Michigan waiver everyone is talking about hidden? Or did you get an email?

I'm such a goober. I've done a bunch of work resumes, but never one for school. (Well maybe in 2001.) Would someone look over my resume? I tried to make it one page, but it seemed like there wasn't a lot of detail. So I added more detail on everything, which feels excessive, to make it "fit" better on the two pages. PM me. (I feel like the old woman who doesn't "get" technology right now.)

The consensus is that they don't care if it's two pages.

Is there any reason why I would've gotten an unsolicited fee waiver from Cornell last year but not this year? Did they take my not applying as disinterest?

My fee waiver email from Cornell seemed particularly targeted towards racial minorities. No clue if there were others that went out that weren't diversity focused.

Mine just had one sentence about geographical and cultural diversity so I agree that there were different emails!

Same with me; sounds most definitely like different waiver e-mails.

Fast question that shows all my naïveté on this thing: how much time do you normally have to accept your offers? For every school I applied to in the past it was like around a month after you got admitted... But that seems odd here! That would mean that if you get PT from Duke, you send your app in on sept 5 and they make you an offer on sept 15, then you must pay your deposit before october 15?
What am I missing?

Isn't it like undergrad, with a May 1st-ish deadline for most? Duke PT doesn't actually get you an acceptance, but only a "conditional acceptance." You still have to go through the financial aid/scholarship process (and possibly an interview), and I'm pretty sure you don't have to make a commitment any earlier than a regular decision applicant.

Oh I got it, where I'm from it's pretty much different! That sounds good!

So Ive heard people on here talking about receiving free waivers at forums, but Im a bit confused as to how exactly that works. Will the school just offer them if you show interest, or do you actually ask for them? And once the free waiver is offered do they just take down your info and apply the waiver, or do you have to send a follow up email or something like that?

Some actively offered one, others I had to directly ask. Not everyone was willing to give one at the forum, and I got told to email later or wait for CRS waivers multiple times.

Was wondering if anyone could share any insight regarding LORs. I am going to request one from a professor that I had this past school year in a small class of about 15 people so she got to know me well, spent a lot of time in office hours, and got an A in the course. But for my second letter I am a little stumped. Is it worth asking a professor I had for two terms freshman year in two undergrad law courses where I got solid A's in both? In addition, I reached out to this professor a year and a half ago to be a reference for a job I was applying to and he said yes. I am worried about the fact that the classes were from the beginning of my undergrad. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When you took the class matters much less than your relationship with the writer. If this professor still knows who you are and is able to sufficiently gush about your unparalleled qualifications for law school, go for it.

How on Earth do people write non-ironically positive essays about themselves? Every personal statement I try to write makes me die inside 20% more.

The message I get from this is that I should spend the next 2 hours watching the Shia LaBeouf Rob Cantor video on repeat.

OK. And I have seen some websites recommend a personal section, others don't. Is it the norm or does it seems a touch goofy? I don't speak any foreign languages or anything cool like that. On the other hand, I have seen things like "cooking enthusiast" so I don't even know anymore. Personally, I might include something like, "avid marathon runner." Am I majoring in the minors here? Maybe I need to calm down.

If you're explaining how something changed you, that often means you're sharing something honest and not as positive about yourself first. If you're not great at humble bragging or blatantly bragging, maybe sharing a story in which the positive thing about you is the change itself might be effective.

But then again... I don't know your life haha
