The percentages are better, because the cost of tuition varies so much. For example, $75,000 wouldn't even cover half of tuition at Emory, but it would be more than full in-state tuition at UGA.Platopus wrote:$ - 0-25%wmbuff wrote:Does anyone know if there's ever been a definitive breakdown of what various numbers of $ mean when discussing scholarship offers?
I've got my own interpretation based on context, and wondered how well it matches up with others:
$: a small scholarship, less than $10K/year
$$: a modest scholarship, $10K/year or more, but less than $100K total
$$$: a big scholarship, at least $100K/year, but not quite a full ride
$$$$: a full tuition or more
How are other folks using these terms?
$$ 26-50%
$$$ 51-75%
$$$$ +75%
Yeah, it makes some sense to use percentages. I'm not sure that quarters of tuition are the exact method I'd pick, though, given the presence of some schools that give stipends. Since we don't see a history of using $$$$$, I'm kind of grasping for what feels right to be grouped with stipends into $$$$. $$$$ feels right for tuition that's been reduced to a positively European level, but $45K/year reduction at a ~$60K/year school doesn't feel comparable to a full ride.seanbodonovan wrote:The percentages are better, because the cost of tuition varies so much. That's a really clean way to break it up, and makes a lot of sense.principalagent wrote:Maybe cut in thirds? So each $ sign is up to a third, with $$$$ meaning full?
I've had people who left me on "read" without texting back, and even that didn't prepare me for law school decisions (looking at you HYS)maybeman wrote:+PostNihilist wrote:+180heyduchess wrote:My favorite part about the law school admissions process is learning how fragile my self-esteem really is!

Maybe 80%+ is $$$$?

I don't think so because they don't yield protect, but maybe the intense competition from this cycle changes thing. I know some people write them to convey enthusiasm too. That's definitely not necessary thoughMikey wrote:do people typically write Why X essays for CCN?
Not necessarily. It's also early in the scholarship game, so that same school may throw some at you later on.andysimbi wrote:Would getting no money from a school suggest you won't get any from higher ranked ones either (assuming acceptances)?
Most are open this week (until Friday the 22nd).jellyjar wrote:Anyone know if most admissions offices are closed this week for the holiday? Just wanna know if I can stop obsessing over status checkers until after the new year...
I wrote one for Chi bc my pie in the sky dream outcome is a Ruby. I say write one if you're gunning for big time money or on the outer margins.maybeman wrote:I don't think so because they don't yield protect, but maybe the intense competition from this cycle changes thing. That's interesting I didn't write one for the same reason. I thought if I showed too much interest, they wouldn't try to snatch me with a Ruby. I'm definitely the idiot here aren't Idm1683 wrote:I wrote one for Chi bc my pie in the sky dream outcome is a Ruby. I'm expecting Northwestern toward the end of the week and tentatively hopeful Stanford will make calls (maybe KH sped up the review process?) so I can stop stressing about it.OtisRedding24 wrote:So what are you all expecting for this week? I'm hoping for a wave from NYU and Northwestern. Should we not expect another wave from Penn until January?
Need need need NYU and a JS1 wave. Also hoping to hear back from Texas.OtisRedding24 wrote:So what are you all expecting for this week? I'm hoping for a wave from NYU and Northwestern. Should we not expect another wave from Penn until January?
