From the email we got from HLS:

By remaining active on the waitlist you agree to:
Accept an offer of admission if it is extended to you; we will ask that you accept the offer of admission within 24 hours. [Emphasis in original.]

I know I'm just a 0L, but the language seems pretty unambiguous.

While the first part is true (you do have 24 hours to actually accept or not), I don't think the second part follows (Harvard has every right to hold it against you in the future).

This feels dumb, but should I like email them if I'm going camping post JS1?

It'd be a real shame to miss the deadline cause u we're out in the woods for a few days

You're already on the waitlist so you haven't made the cut for whatever reason. If they actually admit you and you turn them down, how will that make you more likely to get accepted next year? What will be different about next year? You've already turned them down once after agreeing to accept within 24 hours.

Just think about it. They have 800 people on the wait list. Just don't.

Yeah, in a similar position. For family reasons I'll be in Cuba for two days at the end of June, and given poor connectivity there am hoping they won't reach out to me during that 48 hour window for whatever reason.

Just set up an auto reply to your email if you're really worried.

Haha I was thinking of this. What if I just set up an auto-reply that said "I graciously accept!" in response to everything? That could probably lead to some complicated situations.

Can't you set up rules based on domain name? I thought Gmail had this feature, though I've never used it.

i don't think anyone is talking about more likely. i think it also depends partly on when the offer is considered to be extended as they interview before that.

Isnt it a phone call anyways? Email doesn't matter.

My js1 was an email to set up a Skype interview.

Oh the poster said post-JS1 so I thought they just meant they might be missing a JS2

Ah, good point. I guess I'll just have to set my voicemail message to "...and, if you're calling with regard to an admissions offer, I graciously accept!"

In that case then just set your voicemail.

Hey notsonotorious - just curious, where are you getting the 800 figure? I haven't seen that

Nowhere. It was a playful exaggeration. "Hundreds" is a safe bet, I think. Point still stands.

There's an estimation (and calculation) of WL size in the pinned post on the first page. Could feasibly be around 600.

Basically all post-WL JS1s go out first two weeks of May right? I know they start soon but the waves are front loaded in early to mid May, right?

Every time this thread updates I'm terrified that it's people reporting JS1s

this was posted yesterday:

bearedman8 wrote:2016 looked like:
First WL JS1s reported May 13th
First JS2s reported May 25th
First dings reported May 26th

2015 looked like:
First WL JS1s reported May 7th
(No JS1bs except for international)
First JS2s reported May 20th
First dings reported June 18

2014 was:
First WL JS1s reported May 6th.
First JS1bs reported May 13th
First JS2s reported May 15th (went to both those with JS1bs on the 13th and those with post-WL JS1s)
First dings reported June 17th

so yeah in the last 3 years the majority of post-WL JS1s went out anywhere between 4 and 10 business days after May 1

Okay yeah I guess I was moreso asking about the second, third, fourth, what have you waves than the first. I'm just gonna pull the trigger on my travel plans for late May and cross my fingers I get tapped early if at all.

Great. If anyone needs me, I'll be doing breathing exercises for the next week and a half.
