Jut got the $$ email today. It also mentioned "you will be eligible for a research assistantship". Is this an option that is available to everyone accepted? If so I'm assuming the positions are fairly competitive to get.

I'm wondering the same thing!

FWIW: my email said " you will be guaranteed a research assistantship" so I would say probably everyone gets at least "eligible"

So I retook in December (turned out to be a great decision on my part). Iowa had been holding my app until the updated scores were released on the 4th. I called Admissions yesterday and they said they would have all of the updated scores added to the applications by today. Anyone else out there in the same boat? Where on the status tracker page should I be looking for updates?

Thanks!

Anyone know anything about the "preliminary waitlist" and if there is any distinction between it and the normal waitlist?

At this time, your application has been placed on the preliminary waiting list.

You can receive a final decision at any time; however, the majority of those on the preliminary waiting list will be moved over to the official waiting list in April. The waiting list is not ranked. When a number of those who are admitted drop from the class, those on the waiting list will be re-evaluated. The Committee does not typically begin admitting from the waiting list until after April 15 - The first deposit is due on April 1st and they have a better grasp of who is and is not accepting their offer.

Submitted some additional info after the application and I believe after this decision was rendered, so I would imagine I might still have a shot. Interested in what other people know about Iowa and waitlist process though.

Just got the acceptance email this morning from the dean! Went complete on the 9th and under review on the 10th of January. Who all has Iowa at the top of their list?

sjs12 wrote:Um, wtf? I just got waitlisted with a LSAT>75 and GPA>>>>>>>>75. I don't think there's anything wrong with my application since I have already been accepted to higher ranked schools and have been accepted several other places as well. Is this a possible YP? If anything, it's definitely a blow to my self-esteem, lol.

Almost definitely YP. Write a LOCI to let them know that you're legitimately interested.

Checking in. Submitted 1/16, complete as of 1/17. 161/3.85 with strong softs. I would consider Iowa if I get a very hefty scholarship, but I'm not too hopeful.

I was invited and haven't even gone under review with them. I think they invited all applicants.

Hi!
Would love to hear about Iowa Law as an out of state student. Does and Iowa Law degree open doors nationally or mostly in the Midwest? Any insight is helpful!

definitely not nationally

+1

You should really only be going to Iowa Law if you intend to stay in the midwest. Some students make it to NY, DC, CA, etc., but they are the exception and not the norm.

Thanks for the info! Can you speak a bit about life as a grad student at Iowa? Again, very broad question but any insight is helpful. What is Iowa City like? Is the student body primarily from Iowa?

Not currently at Iowa but I'm from there and had many friends go there, so I can speak to it a bit. While I can't speak specifically about the grad student population, the undergrad population is half Iowans and half out-of-staters, mostly from Chicago. Iowa City is awesome. It's not in a cornfield, as I'd assume most expect. It's known as a party town by undergrad kids and has a ton of bars, but it also has a lot of culture (it's a UNESCO City of Literature, one of 20 in the world) and arts. It's laid back, but also a lot of fun. Definitely take a visit if it's one of your top few. It will be a lot different than you expect.
