Waitlisted.

Definitely gonna ride this WL train. The email says no LOCI is necessary, should I send one regardless?

For reference, 25<LSAT<median, GPA above median, IR 11/07.

send it, write them something nice. A nicely drafted LOCI couldn't hurt nobody.

Hi McMand
Thanks very much for the response--thats a lot of helpful info.

HOWEVER: Its starting to look like i might go to University of Oregon (snagged a big $cholly there). Whadya suspect attending U of O--rather than UW, Seattle, or Gonzaga--does to my chances of a WA AGO in/externship for Summers? Also, I currently live in Bellingham, WA and there is a small AGO office up here. Have you heard of anybody working Summers up here at the Bellingham office? Thanks, again

I'm certain someone at UW has worked at Bham AGO, but I can't think of who. It's a small office. I'd imagine few UW students do it because no one wants to commute up to Bellingham or live there for the summer for their own personal reasons, despite it being a beautiful area.

I don't think Oregon necessarily biases the AGO against you, but what it does do is disconnect you from easy access to those folks. The AGO does regular networking events with UW students, plus OCI. I'd be surprised if they sent people to Oregon to recruit from Oregon schools. In other words, you're losing out on that valuable face-time and networking that can put you over the edge for a gig. I think my interview for a 1L summer position with the AGO came from my long, positive convo at an event, with an attorney in the particular division that had selected me for the interview.

If you're really concerned about saving money on tuition (and I don't blame you, staring down a big hole of debt right now), maybe email the recruiting contacts for the AGO and ask if you can connect with any assistant AGs who are Oregon alumni? I'm sure there are at least a few, and they would probably happily give you tips on what to do. You could also ask Oregon's career services for this same info.

It's a mix. Some live in the U-district, some live in neighborhoods adjacent to the U-district, and everyone else is either in a different neighborhood in Seattle or commutes in from another city.

The U-district's pros are convenience/close to school, density (restaurants, grocery stores), transportation (light rail and tons of bus lines to other places because of how large the university is). Cons are the fact it's an urban college neighborhood. I went to UW undergrad and was pretty tired of being around college students within 2 months of graduating. But, I'm a grumpy grandma at heart, so you might enjoy the liveliness and youthfulness of the area. Another con is that you will get charged premium rent in newer buildings for being close to campus, even though you're not really in "the" hottest neighborhood of Seattle. And if you're in an older/cheaper place, you still pay some amount more than you would somewhere else because of the convenience factor. And, there are always a handful of slumlords who rent out total shitholes to college kids who don't know better, and neglect even basic landlord functions. Seattle is growing a lot so landlords can always find a new tenant; be a smart shopper when looking for a place to live. Or, use grad student housing through UW, which is moderately higher priced (but not the most expensive you'll find), and managed by a decent property management company.

Absolutely send a LOCI. I was admitted off the WL way back in 2014, and I sent a lengthy LOCI and additional letters of rec tailored to UW. I tried to remedy any possible deficiencies in my app (making clear why the "fit" with UW was a good one).

I almost applied for the Gates Scholarship but decided against it because of the income restrictions post-graduation. I make more than that as an MPA working in non-profit.

That bugged me a little bit, as well. But I would much rather have my money go to UW Law instead of student loans. And the non-financial components of the program made it a winner for me, too.

Fair enough. I applied for the Scholars for Justice scholarship at Seattle U because they don't seem to have the same stipulations. I'd almost rather pay to go to UW than go to Seattle U for free, though.

Last batch of acceptances came out on a Tuesday according to LSN. How about some more early week admits, UDub? :D

Yep...looks like they roll out on Tuesdays and Fridays. But Spivey mentioned the possibility of this being a "counter-cycle" so maybe that affects the timing a little...

It seems from LSN quite a few decisions were released on the last Friday of January, 2016. Might it be the same this year?
