I did and thought it was a nice gesture from him. Between this and what other people have said, he seems like a genuinely great guy!

He is! Had lunch with him back in undergrad (he was giving advice to pre-law students). Great guy.

Yeah, thought it was a really nice touch. I'm waiting on some T14 but things like this really make me lean towards UT, and who knows, UT might beat out GULC this yearS in USNEWS

He apparently wrote a book on legal analysis that they give away to all admitted students for free, too. I'm supposed to get mine in the mail this week.

gl!

Thanks!
And does anyone know how the in state tuition works at UT? I am not a resident, so I definitely do not qualify outright, but do they offer in state tuition with scholarship offers? I'm having a hard time figuring out what the COA would actually be at UT because of the large disparity between in state and out of state tuition and whether they offer differing amounts of money based on what you are. Thanks for any help!

BigZuck can probably help you with that.

Often they'll offer out of state students the in state rate, plus maybe a scholarship on top of that

Law school tuition rates are all funny money nonsense across the board. Maybe you have to pay sticker, maybe you don't have to pay anything. Whatever you pay is what you pay. Just got to sit tight and see what they tell you you get in terms of a scholarship before really being able to crunch the numbers.

Well, I guess I'm on the wait train for UT now. My interest in working in Texas has grown at the same rate as my debt aversion, so here's to hoping something good happens

I hope their employment numbers are close to 50%

600 per month with 3 roommates seems expensive to me. And 800 for 1 bedrooms does too. Eh, oh well. Anyone know whether you can park near campus if you live somewhat far away?

You can buy a parking permit, pay for daily parking, or drive into one of the nearby neighborhoods that has free shuttle service (like the Red River shuttle) and park for free and shuttle in.

Just throwing it out there that a lot of those from the links above are in West Campus, an area with loud undergrad and lots of frat houses that most law/grad students I know generally tend to avoid. Not sure what your definition of cheap is, but there are some complexes in North Campus/Hyde Park (near UT shuttle bus route that takes you right by law school) that are under 1,000. Villa Salano, Lee Marquee, Chateau Duval, Tanglewood North The Jacksonian..There's one right across from the HEB on Red River that I know is super cheap. I'd try using a locator service like http://www.austincityrealty.net.

Edit: Just saw that you said 800/month seems expensive. You'll probably have to go veryyyyyy far from the law school/central Austin to pay significantly less than 800 if you want to live by yourself (unless you get really lucky). Even with a roommate(s), that'll be hard to go too far below....Or live somewhere really crappy, I guess. Even some of the stuff I've been looking out really far South is about 750-800.

Thanks! Rand was saying Austin is cheap, so I assumed like midwest cheap, not just cheap for a major city

You could always live out a little ways and commute if you really wanna pay less. I know some people who work downtown/in central Austin and live out in Kyle or Manor and pay something probably more similar to some of those midwest prices.

So I think the process of writing my 'why Texas?' essay kind of sold me on Texas. It seems like a great idea not just for YP but also from a sales perspective.

It seems like most people hear back about 2 weeks after sending their essay is this correct? I've seen one recent example of a WL, but how frequent are dings/Wls if you actually put some effort into your why Texas statement?

Submitted late January and Texas resident. Thoughts about writing a "Why Texas" or visiting to show interest?

I've visited before but not in an official capacity (didn't sign into the admissions office).

25%< LSAT < 50%; 50% < GPA < 75%

Thanks!

housing is not cheap in austin. 'cheap' is relative.

the law school is on campus, so the immediate area is saturated by undergrads who have their parents paying rent. Try checking out options on Manor road on the eastside of 35. it's a fun area and still pretty close to campus

Same! I am definitely way more interesting in Texas after writing my essay.

I submitted mine last Wednesday after being solicited last Monday. Really hoping it was a good sign they asked? I am right at LSAT median and just below median GPA, but have pretty solid softs. Anecdotally, it seems like most people here *do* get in after submitting a solicited "Why Texas?" essay, but I don't want to let myself get too excited given my stats and non-resident status...

+1 would also like to know this. I'm in pretty much the same boat stats wise and being a Texas resident, also UT undergrad, not sure if that plays too big a big role into anything though

Anyone know what schools to show Texas for successful scholarship negotiation?
