I'm consoling myself with the fact that the majority of mid-November applicants didn't get JS1s until January

to add to that, I know someone who applied mid November and didn't receive a JS1 until March and then was admitted just after St. Patty's day. It's just a waiting game at this point.

So it's been over a week since I submitted my app (along with a bunch of other schools), and I still haven't gotten a status checker from H, but I've gotten it from the others. Should I be concerned that the application didn't go through, or is that a normal time gap?

Harvard admissions team is on holiday break from December 23rd - January 3rd so it is likely that you haven't heard anything back simply because they did not have the time to review your file before leaving for winter break.

I should also note that normally it doesn't take long to get a status checker so if 2-3 days after their offices reopen on January 3rd you haven't heard anything I would suggest sending them an email to confirm.

Anyone know the best way to update a school on your fall grades ?

Do you just send your updated transcripts to LSAC and they do all the work? or do you need to send the updated transcript to each individual school?

You can just send the transcript to LSAC. They'll forward it along with a new CAS report to all your schools automatically

I just wish that harvard gave more info in their status checker. Having to wait to get an interview email is nerve-wracking.

Harvard's offices don't open until tomorrow so there won't be any new interview invitations until tomorrow (though tomorrow is probably unlikely because there is a round of interviews tomorrow)

My interview is on Thursday and even though I've already done like 5 interviews for other schools, I'm so nervous! I never expected to get a JS1 (or at least not this early in the cycle) so I'm a little in shock. Hopefully I don't come off as crazy

question regarding my JS1: should I mention during the interview that I was recently promoted at my job?

background info: when I applied, I was working PT as a legal assistant at two different local firms (because neither could afford to have me full time), but right before Christmas, the first firm I worked at promoted me to FT (+ more responsibility) so I quit the other job and now I just work at one firm.

so the question is: do I mention it no matter what? only if I'm asked about my current work experience?

This is just an idea, but you could send them an updated resume today noting the promotion, and that way they can ask you about if they want?

Second. I wouldn't mention it at all costs, just use it if it comes up. They already like you enough to interview you :)

Thanks for the advice, guys! I actually hadn't thought of that but it seems like a good idea :)

I got a new job I'll be starting soon but I'm saving a resume update for if/when I get waitlisted. That way, you have something substantial to say in your LOCI rather than just "yep, still wanna come to Harvard"

Numbers-wise, I wouldn't expect to be getting in if I get put on the waitlist (plus, I'll have other options besides riding out the waitlist). I would expect to have a decent chance of getting in through the regular cycle. So if this is any sort of "plus" for my application, I'd expect it to do more good now than after a waitlist. But, I've got no idea if it's a plus. Assuming I don't care/need to bank things for the waitlist, is there any downside to sending something now? Does anyone know, for example, whether Harvard discourages updates? I know different schools differ on this point--Stanford seems to like them, but I haven't heard anything about Harvard.

Imo can't hurt

Got my new LSAT score today. I feel okay but not great about my LOR's, and my PS is pretty good I think.
What do you guys think? Any advice? Mostly, the only thing I have left to do is clean up my resume and get that last LOR in.

Kinch08 wrote:Got my new LSAT score today--174. GPA's 3.87, so I'm right on the medians for both. Only problem is, my softs and my work experience are both kind of shitty--quit my first job out of college (legal assistant) after 5 months to study for the LSAT, then was unemployed for a month while I studied for the LSAT, now kind of underemployed as a temp/tutor. I feel okay but not great about my LOR's, and my PS is pretty good I think.

Also, I'm gonna be applying on like the 13th or around there when my final LOR comes in, so that's another disadvantage.

What do you guys think? Any advice? Mostly, the only thing I have left to do is clean up my resume and get that last LOR in.

You're closer to the 75th percentile LSAT (175) than the median as you said (172). With those numbers, I'd say you're in a pretty decent position. I'd have everything polished and ready to hit send as soon as that letter comes in.

In terms of whether you think applying at this point in the cycle would hurt you, I'd check out the applicant spreadsheets from previous years to see how people with your numbers and submission date fared. I expect your other softs won't hurt you as much as you'd think.

JS1. Please excuse me for a moment while I freak out.

(For those who might care, I submitted 11/1 and went complete a few days later.)
