You have to request to join, rather than get invited. But theres 185 members, including 10 or so admissions staff. Nobody new has joined from the most recent wave of admits.

you never get an email inviting you or asking you to join?
JS2 today :)

Sorry -- to be clear, I mean you don't get an invite via Facebook, and you must request access, rather than them inviting you through Facebook using your email address. So the Facebook page doesn't display the number of users invited, and therefore I can't tell you approximately how many people have been admitted, which I think is the information curry was looking for.

I got an email that said "In the meantime, you can start connecting with your future classmates today via Facebook! A few of our Admissions Fellows are moderating the group and look forward to getting to know you. You can request access to the group at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/********************/ and we will begin granting access early next week."

thanks, i'll refrain from requesting until i get an email like that. Thank you!

Hopefully. But based on this year...

has the pattern been single day waves this year? when were they?

Assuming HLS wants its 173 median back and YS hold their medians, that's at least 563/2 + 210/2 + 180/4 = 432 seats for 173+ scorers, out of an applicant pool of 840. That means HYS will enroll at least 51% of all 173+ scorers this cycle, and that's not even considering the GPA cutoffs. CLS enrolls at least another 12%.

Per MS9's data: in the Class of 2018 cycle, there were 903 173+ scores and HLS actually maintained its 173 median then. Seeing the median dropped to 172 last year, even with 1098 173+ scores, I think HLS is quite comfortable with either a 172 or a 173 median but either way, HLS won't face much trouble.

Also Thursday for JS2!

is 1145 the number of of people who actually applied or just the number of people that have score of 172+ during this cycle?

The 1145 is the number of people with 172+ scores ("potential applicants"). MS9 does not provide school-specific data.
appind wrote:the seats for 173+ applicants would be more a little more than 432 in HYS as the 40% of Y and 65% of S could very likely be 173. that means additional 10% of Y and 10% of S, which is ~40 more seats. so more like ~472.

if all HYS hold their medians, then for 172+ pool, they likely have 563*0.6 + 210*0.65 + 180*0.4 = 545 seats
This is out of 172+ pool of 1145 applicants, but it doesn't include Chi/Col/NYU seats and doesn't consider the GPA distribution in this pool.
so with a 172+ score it seems one has about 50% CRUDE chance with HYS discounting the GPA distribution and extra seats.

I do not think, given the existence of myLSN, it's of any value to calculate chance, crude or otherwise, with these numbers. Unless, of course, it's just to help us trod along to 180. I only cited the numbers to tell the optimists: "Abandon hope all ye who enter here!" because the decrease in 170+ scores will not be consequential for HYS; in fact, I do not think this cycle has been anything like it was trumped up to be for even the rest of T14s. Goldenbear's calculation shows us the minimum number of matriculants needed (the easiest way for a 173 median), although you are certainly right in that the median is unlikely to be defined as the number greater than the 49.99th percentile.

Either way, HYS won't be weird this year, and that might be oddly comforting.

why the bolded?
it should be consequential as there are 235 (~20%) less potential applicants in the 172+ pool

Just because there's a decrease does not mean it'll consequential, especially if a surplus still exists after such decrease, e.g. corn example from before.

But for a more "data"-driven explanation, look at Class of 2018. Unfortunately, MS9 did not break down the LSAT scores so the comparison can only be approximate but in the 2014-2015 cycle, 170-174 scores were down 10.4% and 175-180 scores were down 19.7%. The 175-180 band decrease alone represents around 120 potential applicants. HLS maintained its 173 LSAT median as well as 3.86 GPA median for that cycle's class. Also, that data is through June 5th of that year and so includes Feb. LSAT scores. Our current data does not.

idk, with the 2014-2015 cycle example it really doesn't mean that it had no impact on chances for applicants even if H maintained both LSAT and GPA medians. Since the pool of applicants with lsat 173+ decreased so admits had less competition on a average basis. the stats of H maintaining medians doesn't tell the whole story. you'd need to look at the rejection rate among the applicants with LSAT/gpa combo in H's range to gain full picture. so reduction in applicants with 172+ lsat may have had an impact on admissions in 2014-2015 cycle and it's possible may again in this cycle.

How about a 3 day JS2 wave to compensate this time around :)

Wait weren't you the first one to be 100% pro HLS over the RTK-- why the hesitation now that you got your JS2?

No, I was just saying that no one is going to accrue $300,000 worth of debt going to Harvard. I'm open to considering money.

If you want biglaw, I'd take the money at CCN unless you got max aid at H and the difference was $70k or something.
So probably $70k? Idk.

E: I'm more PI/govt minded though so if I only got half-ride at CCN, let's say, I'd probably do HYS. Biglaw I'd 100% take the money since I'd be all about maximizing disposable income.

I'd take the full-ride. If I had multimillionaire parents then I'd do whatever I wanted, but I'm assuming debt financing here.

E: I also think it's worth discussing what kind of PI.
My friend does international humanitarian work in Africa, and he picked Yale. That's a pretty "makes sense; duh" situation, but that's especially unicorn.
He did go into law school wanting to do something else though (albeit still PI).
He was never toying with the idea of biglaw.

Fellow 2/22 admits: have any of you received LDAP credentials for logging into the Admitted Students' site? My credentials for the status checker don't seem to work for that purpose.

Is Feb your first score or did you already apply with another score and then retook?

^ yeah my guess would be it means they won't consider a Feb score if it's your only take, but if you applied earlier in the cycle and retook they may consider the new score.
