To clarify. Any idea why they are putting a premium on speed as opposed to every other cycle where they've made phone calls?

Or to be even more blunt. What is different about this year?

Edited for spelling.

Oh. Well according to the OP, there had been 4 acceptance waves by this time last year. This year there has only been 1. So probably trying to catch up.

or maybe because they're sick of everyone fainting when they get the call and they would rather people faint in disbelief without wasting Yale's valuable time ? who knows

Yea that makes sense. Tbh I'm really wondering about the underlying causes. Obvs this has been a weird cycle, in terms of applications and scores and whatnot. But I wonder what has prompted yls to first wait longer than usual, and then feel the need to speed up. It's seems slightly out of character for them to send that solicitation email. And then to change their acceptance MO

Just as a note, that email that went out about URM/LGBT applicants also went out last year. I know because I took the LSAT a year early and started getting things like that before I was actually going to start applying, including Yale's email and the URM packet with sample essays that they send out. So that in particular is nothing new

Yeah, honestly I've been confused about why any schools calls. Seems like a waste of time for admission officers and not super useful for students, either.

Just a hypothesis: Faculty were swamped after Clinton lost. Many helped ex-students in the government find new jobs, others helped current 3Ls change plans that had been set before the election. Others jumped in to help with litigation against the administration in recent weeks. All of this could have slowed the speed at which they read applications. This is also only the 2nd year final exams have been held before Christmas, so timing grading + admissions files could also be a work in progress.

What was the timestamp? When did you submit, if you don't mind me asking?

Let's not forget that the application also opened up much later this year.

Are we thinking there was a single wave at 12:37 PM, and anyone who didn't get one can stop refreshing email for the day?

Eh, hard to say with Yale sending out emails suddenly, but the way they say 'over the next several days' makes me think we should expect more little bundles of acceptances today and tomorrow.

Wondering the same thing, but if months of stalking this thread have taught me anything, it's that Yale does Yale, so who knows. Not that I'll ever stop refreshing just in case, obviously.
