Our review process is thorough. Each application is reviewed holistically and several factors are considered. Given the large number of applications we receive, we request that you refrain from contacting us unless the matter is urgent. You may check your status here."

Is this a general "Your application is now complete!" email? I'm a bit confused about all of the different types of reviews Berkeley Law has going on.

Nah! It's actually under review now. Status checker should confirm this :)

Perfect! Is this the initial administrative or dean's review? How long does it usually stay under review?

I also applied for this one. I think they will notify the recipient at the same time as the other scholarships that required essays, which according to their website is mid-March I believe. I'm wondering whether receiving this scholarship would have an adverse effect on the normal merit aid you would receive. I.e., would they just reduce your merit aid award by the amount of the application-required scholarship?

Cool... just have to keep waiting, I guess! My understanding from the website is that they evaluate merit scholarships separately from Application-required scholarships. But of course, if someone was given a huge merit scholly, and then was also granted a named-scholly, they would adjust so that the total funds do not exceed COA.

Ooh, never mind. I read through the last couple of posts. I guess I'm in UR1 now.

It's a good thing, you're still in the running! Any decision can occur after faculty review, but it is a decent sign and you'll find out around the date given.

ah ok thanks. do you think my chances are better than a coin flip at this point?

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=268193&start=1175#p9780235

My best guess is somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 chances of getting in through FR.

is that an improvement or a downgrade from my chances straight out of application? I had a 167/3.77 from berkeley undergrad and applied on jan 10th. I just cant tell if this is good or bad news

Don't think anyone outside of the admissions committee can answer that. It's good news in the sense that you're still in consideration, but bad in the sense that the majority of the pool gets admitted from "administrative review".

Do you guys think Berkeley will always top UCLA and USC or do you think they will eventually pass Berkeley?

I doubt it is going to be happen within the timeframe that matters to us, i.e. next 5-10 years.

I'd say they'd stay on top, but always is a long time

I think UCLA will gain prominence and outcomes will more closely resemble Berkeley's as the years go on.

USC I don't think will.

Rankings are a racket though so I don't think they'll top Berkeley in that sense, but we should be looking at outcomes not rankings.

doubt it, prestige is determined by preexisting perception rather than actual quality/excellence

In terms of prestige, Berkeley will be the clear favorite for the foreseeable future.

UCLA does manage to have a higher LSAT median though, which is rather interesting.

probably because berkeley can afford to admit a few more holistic folks without hurting its reputation/prestige

Berkeley explicitly takes some people with lower LSATs because they think they're "interesting." They know it matters to rankings but they take an intentional hit anyway... if you look at the class there are some people who have REALLY LOW LSATS and might have ONLY gotten into Berkeley out of 10/12 applications, but are also often the people who go on and do crazy things, or have amazing work experience where they were working 100 hrs/ week when they took the lsat. berkeley could forgo those people and raise its LSAT median pretty easily, but choose not to bc of their "class creation" goals

Doubt it. As was mentioned upthread, the prestige that comes with being a current T10 and long time T14 isn't easily undone. If anything I'd venture to say that USC surpasses UCLA at some point but doubt either one cracks the T14.

The more relevant question is whether Berkeley becomes more generous with scholarships this year.

Agreed. Waiting to buy a plane ticket/schedule a visit until I get at least a little assurance that Berkeley's offer will be even somewhat competitive.

+1. Plenty of "CA or bust" folks out there. My theory why Berkeley's BL+FC placement lags every T14 besides GULC is partly because lots of people would rather take any job in CA vs. biglaw in an easier market like NYC.

It sucks those who don't make it into the first wave of scholly offers (2/15) have to wait more than a month to hear in the second wave (3/20) :/

The same reason why UCLA's medians are on par with many T14's even though the outcomes are considerably worse.

I wonder if the first wave will include people who had only been admitted a couple of weeks ago.

They specified these exact dates? If so, where? I was getting lost in the information.

Also I just submitted FAFSA and CSS to them this weekend so I hope that's okay.
