Thiiiiissss. 9/22 here and would have thought WL was my destiny. Any idea when dings usually happen?

I don't know, I'd imagine soon though! I'm tempted to just withdraw and reject them before they reject me.

09/12 here UR2. Thinking about sending an LOCI.. thoughts?

Do you have a why uva?

I did not do one. Thinking about a LOCI/Why UVA combo.

I think that's a good idea, they seem to really like having people express enthusiasm for uva

+1 I also recommend a hat. That VA sun is real. As long as you're not a catcher that's all you need. Someone will likely lend you a bat. Note for softball we use metal not wood.

Now I have to find all my old catching equipment...

I'm curious as to why any non ED applicant that really wants admitted wouldn't do a why UVA essay? You're applying to a school that's competitive for entry, particularly if you're out of state, and which is liberal with it's yield protection. If you remain under review, there's likely one or mother other applicants who nearly match you in numbers. Don't you think the school will prefer the one that's taken an interest in its unique features?

How hard is it to write a couple of hundred words that mention the collegiate atmosphere on grounds, name a couple of outstanding and inspiring faculty and their work - like Garrett's stuff on eyewitness identification, mention the historic influence of TJ and touches on the location at the foot of the blue ridge?

Retake?

Sorry, I wish I had good advice. I presume you've already visited grounds? If not, try and schedule a visit, meet with an admissions officer, be sociable, friendly, smart and express how much you like the school. If it were me and I _really_ wanted UVA, I'd be trying to get face time some way some how.

Didn't write a Why UVA and I got in within 3 weeks of applying (I have good but not anything crazy numbers). Idk if Why X essays make too much of a difference tbh

So there was something different in your application? You got an admissions officer on a beautiful autumnal day in Charlottesville and they were feeling particularly generous that morning, you support the same football team as the person reviewing your application or you went to the same undergraduate college? There's a million and one things that could make a difference.

If you go through law school and try litigation, you'll learn that you don't want to leave an argument unmade. You can't correct it after the fact. If someone sends a well crafted why UVA, that by definition means someone has to look again at their paperwork.

Obviously there's a law of diminishing returns, but particularly for someone potentially facing a yield protection no offer, I think it's worth strongly indicating your desire to attend.

I used the LOCI as that indication. I would say that a letter can do the same thing and WL is not the only time to use it. Waiting that long (as I have as well) constitutes a WL in my mind.

I mean it can't hurt, but this site generally overstates the importance of Why X essays IMO. Maybe in the case of someone with ridiculous numbers to avoid a YP, but in the majority of cases, I highly doubt it makes a significant difference

I thought those essays are more important that care about student interest in the school
