It's not important--it's just different stages of review. We are all just bored, hate waiting, and love overthinking things :D

With most schools you will typically follow some sort of process. UR1, UR2 >> Decision. UR2 would be like committee second review and you can tell when you go from UR1 to UR2 by status checker updates. Look at following thread.

So I applied a week ago and all my other schools have received the CAS report, except Chicago. I called LSAC and they said they sent the report. Has other people experienced a delay in Chicago's status checker regarding the CAS report?

Yes but is this in the status checker? Mine hasn't changed

The status itself doesn't change when you go from UR1 to UR2, but the "Current Status Date" does. When your "Current Status" goes from "Complete" to "Application Under Review," that's UR1. Let's say that happened on 11/14. As long as your "Current Status Date" says "11/14," you're still at UR1. If, at some point, your "Current Status" is still "Application Under Review," but the "Current Status Date" has changed to, say, "11/30," that would mean you're at UR2. And so on and so forth with UR3, UR4, etc.

Yeah they took a while to get mine in and I applied mid September. Took a couple weeks I think (was probably less, but that's what it felt like lol). I just checked LSAC and made sure it was sent.

Congrats to everyone who got an interview request! Does the status checker update to Interview requested or something like that (like it does for Cornell) when they send out an invite? I'm scared it might go to my spam lol.

Yes, it does. It changes to "Invited to Interview" or something similar.

To anyone that's interviewed--how did you find the email of the person that interviewed you for thank you notes? I can't find it anywhere on the website.

Update: had my interview yesterday, it lasted exactly 20 minutes as promised. The whole thing was very conversational, they asked about some things on my resume, about my personal statement, and of course the "why law school" and "Why law school now" questions.

One question to think about is how you feel about Trump being elected as they asked me that (maybe because I'm a URM and a international student), still felt kind of odd for them to ask about Trump because it left me with the feeling that if I answered wrong it could harm my chances of acceptance.

They've been asking a lot of people about the election. Best guess I've seen in here is that it's mostly to see how we respond to what might be controversial questions and how we respond with what could be controversial answers. They don't seem like a school that would have an ideological test as part of the admissions process, especially since the dean of UChicago wrote that letter about not having "safe spaces" and what not. Also the message to prospective students from the dean of the law school says "A diversity of perspectives strengthens intellectual inquiry".

In short I would focus less on the content of your answer and more on the way you delivered it.

Was asked about a paper I published, why I chose my undergrad (why do all law schools ask me this?) and all the other standard things. Almost all questions are in this thread.

if you went to a non-prestigious undergrad, your interviewers may have a false superiority complex towards you.

Wooooooooo just started an account after spending 2134091 hours on TLS what a time to be alive

Quick question: do we know if there's any way to gauge how competitive of a candidate one is at UChicago based on speed of acceptances at other T14 but lower-ranked schools? Asking for a friend*

It depends on where your numbers are in relation to the school's. I mean if you get in at YHS then you're probably a good shot, but look more at numbers.

Glad everyone is enjoying the interview process! I still continue to wish you all the best of luck! For the person who asked about the emails: if you PM me who interviewed, you I can get you the email.

Re: the numbers, do you know if they put more weight on GPA or LSAT? Also do you know what can be inferred from their recent increase in 25th %ile GPA? I'm salty because I was JUST shy of last year's (3.69, and I'm within 0.02 of that) and now it's like 3.73 or something. Thank you so much for your help!

What they put more weight on is whatever they need more of for their incoming class. I'm not sure what their class looks like so it's hard to really tell. So much of admissions is a guessing game so I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

My inclination for the increase in GPA is that it's harder to get in, but it's only the 25th%ile and GPA is generally more fluctuating than the LSAT scores.

Ahh dag nabbit. Thank you so much for your thoughts! Hopefully my softs (semi-URM aka Paraguayan-American and Fulbright) will keep me afloat in the admissions process

Hey all! I recently received a personalized message from a Chicago Law campus organization; is this a good sign or do they send this to all applicants? GPA>50, LSAT>75

Went under review on 11/14, still haven't received an interview request. Getting nervous about that. Anyone else in a similar boat?

Nothing to be nervous about. Very early in the review process.
