Compared to other cities housing schools of UChicago's caliber (NYC, the Bay area, Boston), Chicago is relatively cheap.

This is true. I was referring to how Chicago's cost of living compares to Texas.

Don't worry about the emails. Y'all need to relax; you're going to do just fine.

COL is cheap compared to cities; compared to TX it will not be :D. It all depends on where you're from and what you're used to.

Wondering the same thing. I would email them, but I'm afraid I'll come across as a cocky bastard of some sort.

I'm from Kentucky, so I understand the sticker shock entirely.

Fuck, I just realized that the last sentence of my "Why Chicago" addendum spills onto a second page. I added a header at the last minute and didn't realize this. Is this going to look unprofessional? Will this reflect poorly on me and reduce my chances of admission/scholly? I know I sound like a maniac but Chi is one of my top choices :(

I'm sure it's not a huge deal. Mine is a few lines over one page and I'm not sweating it too much.

Not to sound overly harsh, but this post screams neurotic. Other, more informed, members of the community may disagree with me, but that extra line should not sink a quality essay. That is, if your response is compelling, the officer shouldn't mind turning the extra page for you. I've linked one of Mike MS9's many informative blog posts, ==error==/generation-neurotic/, and suggest that you read it. Relax. Find other things to occupy your time.

It's not harsh; it is neurotic. It's just that the stakes are high, you know? So I stress when anything is amiss.

As a fellow gunner, I can appreciate the anxiety surrounding a particularly desirable outcome. Nevertheless, I think it's important to remember that law school, and a legal career, will present endless opportunities for more reasonable panic attacks. You have a year before matriculating, try to enjoy it!

Does U Chicago care about Why X essays? Or are people just writing it because it's their first choice?

your optional essay going one line onto the next page is not going to cause them to throw your app in the trash if they find the content of your app compelling

Given that they interview, I'm wondering this same thing.

I think it's a good enough school that they don't care. But I had some good stuff I wanted to shove in their face, so I wrote one. Less that, probably not worth it.

Why haven't I gotten one yet? How long should I have to wait?

Make sure IL is a state of interest or whatever or CRS.

Quick question: for NYU, do we need to write a detailed description of our college and post-college activities as the Yale app requires? thanks!
