Hey all,
Chapman alum here. If you have any questions feel free to hit me up.
Also, if you get an invite to Scholar's weekend, even if you aren't planning on going to Chapman, go to that weekend. It's a damn fun time. They hand out drink tickets like they're going out of style.

How hard was it for you to find a job after graduating? I keep seeing stats that Chapman's employment rate is really not that good.longhornlaw wrote:Hey all,

I ended up getting a JD advantage gig in March my 3L year. Tuesday is my last day at that position, as I'm now in Texas and sitting the bar here and taking a firm position.LShopeful2016 wrote:How hard was it for you to find a job after graduating? It's hit or mix. If you're hustling, you can land something. In my close group of friends, everyone had a job or had the fellowship that led to their job within 3 months of the bar.
Now, that's not to say it's easy to get a job. One of the guys on Law Review my year didn't have a job after graduation, but he was also kind of a weirdo. So there's that.
The CSO has pretty much been completely turned over since I graduated, and with the new dean, who knows how it could be. Campbell was good at bringing in some of the corporate gigs, but that's 1 or 2 jobs here or there.
If you're looking for a big firm job, Chapman ain't for you though. Usually 1 person a year gets a job like that.
What specifically are you looking for?

Got the call yesterday and 2 emails today that I'm in. No mention of scholarship though. Would that have been included in the email?

Thanks for the positive vibes, but no money : (

Loan Calculator
Loan Balance: $160,000.00
Loan Interest Rate: 6.80%
Loan Fees: 0.00%
Loan Term: 10 years
Degree Program: Lawyer (LLB or JD)
Monthly Loan Payment: $1,841.29
Number of Payments: 120
Cumulative Payments: $220,953.99
Total Interest Paid: $60,953.99
Note: The monthly loan payment was calculated at 119 payments of $1,841.29 plus a final payment of $1,840.48.
It is estimated that you will need an annual salary of at least $220,954.80 to be able to afford to repay this loan. This estimate assumes that 10% of your gross monthly income will be devoted to repaying your student loans. This corresponds to a debt-to-income ratio of 0.7. If you use 15% of your gross monthly income to repay the loan, you will need an annual salary of only $147,303.20, but you may experience some financial difficulty. This corresponds to a debt-to-income ratio of 1.1.
I don't think this law school is worth $160,000. There's too real a chance that it won't increase my earnings potential at all, and only leave me financially destitute. I really don't mean to be bitchy or have sour grapes, but it just doesn't add up to me. Oh well, hopefully Whittier or Western will come thru. I really want Western anyway specifically for their evening program.Chapman Admissions Coordinator wrote: Good Afternoon Chris,
Unfortunately you have not been awarded a merit scholarship at this time. If you have any other questions please let me know.
Thank you,

Re: Chapman c/o 2019 (2015-2016 app cycle)
Chapman would have cost me 30k over 3 years due to scholarship and living with parents and it STILL IS NOT WORTH 30k... There is less than a coin flips chance(44.7% to be exact) at becoming a lawyer from Chapman law.Chris4943 wrote:Thanks for the positive vibes, but no money : (

I would not recommend attending Whittier or Western unless it is completely FREE and you are okay not being practicing attorney after 3 years of law school. As you can see from the links I have provided below, Whittier and Western are even worse off than Chapman.
Whittier: 25.8% chance of securing bar passage required, full-time, long-term employment (http://www.lstscorereports.com/schools/whittier/2014/)
Western: 28% chance of securing bar passage required, full-time, long-term employment (http://www.lstscorereports.com/schools/westernstate/)
I am not trying to be condescending or rude in any way. I am just trying to caution you from making this GIANT mistake.

Re: Chapman c/o 2019 (2015-2016 app cycle)
I appreciate it, I'm onboard.
I'm not as starry eyed as I used to be about getting into law school, 100% thanks to this forumcrushing my dreams opening my eyes.
I make a comfortable living with amazing benefits as a soulless government bureaucrat. Graduating from law school and passing the bar probably would not increase my salary even under good circumstances, so there's not a chance I'm going to go into debt for it. I've decided that the only way I'll go is if it's free and works around the good job I already have. It's actually kind of liberating, I'm on a mission to attend any ABA accredited law school that will give me a free ride. Western's the only one that seems to fit the bill due to their classes starting at 6pm. If they don't make it rain I'll retake the LSAT and try again next year.
