Applied 1/14
Complete 1/19
Accepted (email) 1/29
I really like this school but without $$$ doesn't seem worth the cost. It says scholly info isn't in acceptance email. Does anyone know how long after acceptance they send $$$ email?

I was accepted 1/15 and got an email with scholly info on 1/19. I don't think they give out a lot of $$$ though cause their offer was A LOT less than what I was offered at similarly ranked schools.michelekfla wrote:Applied 1/14

Got an email of acceptance within 7 days of submitting my application, then a follow up email about 5 days later with the $20k a year scholarship. Also got letters for both in the mail within a week of the emails. Not enough though....just wondering if everyone else is hearing back so quickly? I have a hard time believing they even reviewed the application that fast.

I just checked to make sure my dates were accurate. I was accepted 1/29 (Friday) and received the email about the scholarship 2/2 (Tuesday) and that was the weekend of the major snowstorm, so I guess they dole out the scholarships pretty quickly. I would almost say it is "automatic" because the turnaround was so quick.
My stats are dead on for the Median GPA (but graduated undergrad in 2.5 years with a double major) and well above 75% on LSAT. Was really hoping their scholarships would be stronger considering the price tag for a school ranked below 3 of the other law schools in the area (Georgetown, GW, and George Mason). Really wondering how open they will be to negotiating considering them likely wanting to bring up their LSAT averages.
Anyone else well above their numbers and thinking about trying to negotiate more $$$? Still waiting to hear back from GW and George Mason...

Re: American University c/o 2019 (2015-2016 applicants)
After you go complete, is there ever a time where it goes to "in review" or whatever, or does it just say "complete" all throughout. I'm asking because I submitted my app on 2/16, changed to complete on 2/22 and I just got another date change today (2/26). Just want to know if that second date change means I'll be getting decision soon...if anyone experienced this.
Thanks guys.

I've been complete since November 5th... Starting to doubt whether they're actually going to review my application.

Mine bumped from 15K to 25K/yr. Is it pretty nasty to leverage for more money?annpe wrote:Also got the unsolicited bump in merit scholarship from $20k a year to $35k a year....anyone who got bumped to full tuition mind pming me their numbers?

I don't think so - I'm going to meet with them and offer to commit if (and only if) they offer me full tuition. If not, I'm on waitlist at Georgetown so I will ride that out until the day that classes start and I'd gladly go there even paying full sticker. I'm worried about how competitive an American WCL degree will be in DC for Big Law - but if I can hedge my bets by going for free it's worth it to me.
Side note - what are your numbers? If you PM me I'd be happy to share mine so you can see your feasibility to get more $$

Re: American University c/o 2019 (2015-2016 applicants)
Applied 10/20. Admitted 10/30. Initial scholarship offer of 20K/year for 3 years on 1/19. Completely ignored it because I had better offers from Brooklyn (full and small grant), Northeastern (full and stipend), St. John's (full tuition and GENEROUS grant), and similar offers at Fordham and Boston College. (You'll notice a pattern as I only applied to schools in NYC, Boston, and DC.) I had intended on accepting at Brooklyn after my honeymoon at the end of February. Then I received the 20K->35K unsolicited bump from AUWCL on 2/26. While not a full ride, it was a more attractive scholarship offer, and I accepted my FinAid and paid my seat deposit earlier this month. Undergrad GPA 3.7. Double major in 3 years. 162 LSAT Score. Ultimately, DC is a better fit for me than either of the other two markets I applied to. Congrats to all who have gotten in/are attending. See you this fall.

Hey all,
Just Accepted to American with a 20k per year scholarship but I got better offers from Wake Forest and Northeastern (full tuition). I'd love to come here for their strong international law program but the price tag might be too steep to justify. Is there any way to negotiate for more money without physically visiting the campus? (I'm very new to this) Any help would be appreciated. Congrats to all who got in!

Withdrew yesterday with $35k scholarship. Hope the spot and money goes to one of you TLSers!!
Also- I definitely recommend negotiating your scholarship, especially if the initial bump was unsolicited. Seems like admissions got a better grasp of their incoming class and finances and had a lot more money open up.
Good luck to all!!

I am having the same issue. I spoke with them and they said merit money was exhausted. All people who received merit, got their decision on March 16th I believe. I have been told the amount of debt I would be in is not worth it.
