I assume it didn't include LSAT scores, UGPA, and URM status like the Baylor spreadsheet in the 2011-12 cycle.

Why did UT have to give me such a compelling scholarship? Now my choice is incredibly difficult.

Has anyone here lived in both LA and Texas? I've lived all over the south (FL,GA,TN) parts of the Midwest (IN,MI,MN) and asia. I'm torn between UT and UCLA. How is the atmosphere at the school and the state? I can't find much about the legal market in texas but I hear LA is less crazy than NY.

I just withdrew from the waitlist. It really is a shame because UT was what I wanted from the start, but it became increasingly apparent to me as the cycle progressed that it just was not going to be a good fit for many reasons. I am grateful in a way for the waitlist though, because if they hadn't put me on it I would not have applied to and gotten into three T14 schools and gotten a waitlist offer from Harvard (UT and UW were my only two applications until the UT waitlist email in January). I suppose everything works out for a reason.

Best of luck to all of you still waiting and those of you who decide to attend.

I like to think this is how they felt when they saw your email and realized you called their bluff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2CX20bBNJE

Born and raised in San Antonio, lived in the LA area since 08. So it sounds like you haven't lived in Texas or LA, right? Where did you live in Asia? What are you looking to do as a lawyer? I want to know more about you before I start talking about them.

I lived in Tokyo for 2 years. I've never lived in LA but have family there and been there a number of times. As for lawyer stuff, I am looking at IP. Havent decided between prosecution or litigation yet, but I have a graduate degree in engineering and work experience. I have an aircraft and mechanical background. Looking at biglaw to start.

Hmmm...your situation makes it tough to say. Cost of living is about the same, their IP program rankings are about the same, OOS tuition is about the same, etc. etc. etc. I'll continue on, but here's another question - do you know where you want to work? If you don't, you're not alone, I'm literally trying to make the same exact decision, but it's an important factor.

IP in LA (for all schools, not just UCLA) is generally going to be more geared towards the soft IPs like copyright and trademarks, but it seems like you're probably leaning towards the harder stuff like tech, right? Not that UCLA has a bad program for that, but I'm inclined to say UT may be a little more appropriate for you. That being said, LA has a massive concentration of biglaw compared to Austin.

In terms of the atmosphere of Texas, that's a loaded question. There's the environment and culture in Austin, and then there's the rest of the state. Austin is seen as a liberal Mecca of sorts for the state, and it definitely penetrates through to the culture itself - they wear their "Keep Austin Weird" mantra with pride, but to be honest it's a little too look-at-me attention seeking for my tastes (not that that's preventing me from highly considering the school).

One other thing worth noting for now - for students who graduate from UT but don't stay in TX, CA is the #1 state their grads move to. Food for though.

Go to UCLA if you want to work in CA, go to UT if you want to work in TX, don't go to either if you want to work someplace else. Also neither IP "program" would be better than the other, the schools are basically identical.

It's not really a discussion to have ITT, this is more for talking about admissions to UT and asking about UT in general. The "Choosing a Law School" subforum on this site is really great though, I encourage you both to start a thread there to get good, tailored advice for your specific situation/career goals.

Do you guys think that an acceptance at NYU (no money) would be worth attempting a scholarship renegotiation after an already fairly significant offer?

IMO, it would be. If you really want UT and let them know that, I dont see why you shouldnt at least try.

What is the average time to expect a response with regards to reconsideration? Really hoping they respond before the deposit deadline.

Yes I had offers from WUSTL, USC, and Vanderbilt that were all a bit higher (WUSTL way higher).
