If it makes you feel better, I'll be doing the same :) We've been together five years, so I'm really hoping to find a community of people similarly in LTRs!

Me too!! KJD but we have dated all throughout college and are moving in together in the fall. He's moving cross country for me so finding friends for him would be great haha

This is all so inspiring! Unfortunately, my SO will not be moving for me. We've been together for ~3 years and he might even relocate further away from me (possibly overseas) if there are better career prospects. The thought of doing long distance relationship during 1L in a new state scares me but it is what it is :)

If it makes you feel any better, my SO and I were long distance for the past three years with him being in med school for a chunk of it-- it's definitely hard but not impossible! If it's reassuring at all, being so busy is probably the best way not to get caught up in missing him!

Same ....my bf is finishing his 2nd year of med school and we've been long distance since he started. Been dating ~5 years. I'll be moving closer to him for law school, but still like 2 hours away.. Most likely. Unless I get off a waitlist in his city, but it would still be a tough decision on where to go. I feel like it's kinda nice sometimes to not have a distraction, but maybe I'm just used to it. I was nervous when we started long distance, but if you're gonna make it work, you make it work :)

I got married right after college in 2014. We have the same group of friends from college and I am hoping to find at least some people whom we would both be friends with, as well.

I specifically asked a dean of a T14 school about the cause of the school's large gender gap. He replied that they had essentially messed up one class for a number of reasons, and as a result it would take 3 years for their stats to look normal again. I really appreciated his honesty, and I guess I'm posting this here because I thought other people might want to know that the admissions people at least one school see a gender gap as a problem to be fixed.

So, since my mom has announced where I'm going to law school, apparently some acquaintances have come up to her and asserted that boys are going to distract me from learning law, which is...honestly not one of the things I was concerned about going to law school, haha. I wonder why that was the first thing to come to their minds.

No, which is what makes it so hilarious. I've never been interested in dating in the slightest.

Hopefully this will be my plan as well. Only thing is the SO is acting kinda flaky about it all. Says he is going to "try" his hardest to find a job in the city where I am going to law school. I need more of a commitment since I am deciding the housing situation. Terrified of ending up in a 1 bedroom that's 2000 a month and paying for it by myself. Is anyone else dealing with a similar situation or uncertainty about ability for SO to find a job by the start of next fall?

That's exactly what mine says! It can be super frustrating to hear because obviously I want a more secure commitment, but I have to remind myself that he must be scared too. Uprooting a life and moving to a new city can be terrifying, especially if you have no connections and no plans of your own. I think that when my SO says that he will "try," he really does mean it. He cannot guarantee what may happen, and I'm sure he doesn't want to simply sit in an apartment with me when he doesn't have any friends or anything to do or a way to pay rent. Putting myself in his shoes has helped me realize that this lack of commitment is way more about his own, legitimate concerns than it is the strength of our relationship.
As far as housing goes, I will be moving in with several other TLSers and if my SO can join me, then great!! But if not, I will have awesome roommates and affordable rent.
Good luck!!

Same as well! Luckily my husband is the type who's totally okay with picking up and moving to a new city, so he's actually helping alleviate my stress about the situation. I think the most important thing, twokings, is that you referred to you and your SO as 'family'! It's all about the family teamwork, imho.

That's really reassuring to hear! Most people I have talked to who have a SO moving seem pretty sure about it, while I am still trying to figure out all of the details. My current plan is to apply to live in a dorm, but also apply for a university apartment so that I can keep both options open. Thinking about roommates, but hoping that they will be open to having a SO move in. I mean it will lower the cost of rent for all of us haha! I've just had to trust that if he wants to be there with me, he will make it work, and I will try to help.

Long time lurker here! If you guys could please offer some advice on my situation, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm between GULC and Vandy. After Vanderbilt's admitted students week I was pretty much set on attending. They are offering me about 35k/yr. After reading this thread, I tried negotiating for a higher scholarship, but to no avail. On the other hand, GULC just sent me a revised scholarship that will cover tuition plus most of my other expenses.

I am still leaning towards Vandy, but with this new information GULC is now a great option. Should I email Vandy again asking them to reconsider with this new scholarship in mind?

Yes, you have nothing to lose by doing so. If it's true, I might include language about committing if they match the scholly.
