Out of all of us, only one checked in that they got in? Makes me wonder how many spots they even had left to give?

How does this work with them anyway? Do they let in a whole bunch more than they can accept, assuming they'll have similar trends of acceptance to last year, and then fill the few remaining spots from the waitlist? Or do they only let in a few more than their target number, and then accept people off the waitlist as admits don't put in their deposits? (I.E. do they let five hundred folks in, knowing the majority won't accept, or do they put in closer to 200 and pluck from the waitlist never going that far above 200?)

I have no real knowledge, and just got waitlisted, but I think that they were running really low on spots available, so they waitlisted basically everyone (except superstars [i.e. hopeful]).

And, I think I remember reading way earlier in the thread that a current student said a huge percentage of his class came in off the waitlist, and I expect the HYS overlap is probably quite problematic for Chicago.

So, it seems like there would be a pretty big waitlist that will see a lot of movement. (Just my opinion)

Chicago only accepts like 9% of its waitlist, so I wouldn't get your hopes up too high.

Waitlisted yesterday.

Pertinent question. Seat deposits and scholarship acceptance are not binding agreements, correct? For example, I can place a seat deposit and accept a scholarship offer at Northwestern, all while waiting to hear back from Chicago, right?

Hi - lurker checking in. Thanks for all the good info!

In case this info would be helpful to anyone:
Admitted by email yesterday
LSAT = 50th
GPA > 75th
Went complete 2/4; Interviewed 3/9

Does anyone know the time frame for receiving $$ info from Chicago?

Seconding this question, but I've seen some scholarship offers that require you to withdraw all applications to other schools. Might be award-specific.

You should read anything you sign, but they cannot force you to go to a law school.

The chance that a T-14 law school would sue you to get more money from you than your deposit is incredibly small. It would be embarrassing for them and they have other good candidates to replace you. I've never heard of it happening. If you switch schools late, you will likely lose your deposit, but that might be worth it to you. If a school asks you to sign something saying you're not deposited at any other schools, you can probably do that ethically if you're on a waitlist. If they ask if you're on a waitlist elsewhere, you should, ethically, tell them that you're on a waitlist and where, or, alternatively, avoid the question. I would not lie about being on a waitlist.

I know of at least one person who got off of the UChicago waitlist in the summer and gave up a spot at Northwestern to attend -- and he seems fine. It happens all the time.

Generally, law schools try to get you to commit to their school, and they do that by making it seem like a Really Big Deal to change your mind. it's not. You send an email and you never think about it again, and neither do they. It really is fine.

Anyone on the WL already send in a supplemental essay? I dispatched mine today, but kept it to a page and included a few LOCI elements (aka some cool stuff I've accomplished since submitting). Curious if anyone has done the same (?)

Is it right to assume that those who are lucky enough to get in off the waitlist will not be receiving any $? :?

edit: phrasing. haven't gotten off waitlist y'all. I wish.

Got confirmation that they received my supplemental WL essay less than 24 hours after submitting. If anyone has sent one in and did not get a confirmation email, you should follow up!

Anyone else still hanging out UR without an interview or waitlist? I've been at my second date change since early March.

Ditto. I had to email twice for my Why Chicago essay last month before they gave me a response confirming they got it. Said they hadn't received an email. This time, I got a reply back in two days.

Anyone else getting generic responses like, "Thank you for your continued interest." without confirmation of, "yes, we'll add this to your file."?

Hey guys - how does one go about asking for more scholarship politely when they have nothing serious to bargain with? I was hoping Penn would give me a decent scholarship but they're dragging their heels about telling me and that's the second best ranked school I got into
I want to ask but I don't want to come off sounding stupid since I can't say I'm getting a better deal elsewhere
