Re: EMORY WAITLIST Class of 2018
I was also told that they admit all priorities before switching over to the regular waitlist. Kind of makes sense... otherwise why have a priority waitlist at all.
The priority pool is apparently much smaller, so I would say chances are not terrible for regular waitlist people if this cycle continues to be crazy and there is a lot of movement at the top. What I don't know is if they rank the regular waitlist people. That, I think, would be the key thing for regular waitlist people to know. I heard third-hand that two people on the regular waitlist were admitted last year. Great news for priority people, but not so great for regular waitlisters.

Re: EMORY WAITLIST Class of 2018
At the Emory ASW last weekend, Dean Rosenzweig said that this is the first year doing a priority waitlist, so I think they are still trying to figure it out. He also said that he expects to admit people from both the priority and regular waitlists, so don't lose hope!!
edited because DEAN Rosenzweig is very much alive the last time I checked, my deepest apologies

I found that way funnier than I really should've. Safe to say this waiting is starting to make me a tad crazy.NoBladesNoBows wrote:OMG there are zombies there!!!kfree wrote:At the Emory ASW last weekend, Dead Rosenzweig said that this is the first year doing a priority waitlist, so I think they are still trying to figure it out. Emory is my top choice. Submitting a LOCI. Should I do anything else?
Anyone current 1L's gotten off the waitlist????
I'm not quite sure why Emory decided to waitlist me, given my stats are pretty low comparatively. How do law schools perceive a heartfelt LOCI with promise regardless of past mishaps in GPA?

Re: EMORY WAITLIST Class of 2018
Regular waitlisted last month
I talked to admissions and it looks like they do pull people off the regular waitlist. Plus with this cycle having lower applicants it could be in our favor. Who knows though. If they start admitting people in July I expect a lot of movement to occur. Perhaps some people waitlisted got into another school they were waitlisted at and chose that one instead. Anyways, at least we have a shot to get in.

I don't think it hurts to send an email asking a question even if you don't get the response you were looking for because you should have all the information you can get to make a decision!
I also know someone who was admitted in August from the waitlist a few years back, but they didn't have a priority waitlist at the time and I don't know if it was ranked or not.
What I am most confused about is whether or not they are going to completely exhaust the priority waitlist before accepting regular waitlist. Seems like people have been told slightly different things.

Re: EMORY WAITLIST Class of 2018
I have been getting waitlisted everywhere including Emory and I called to speak to my undergrad law school advisor. She said she was at an annual meeting of pre-law advisors and basically the take away message was something like this:
Because of the uncertainty with this year's class as far as numbers of students reducing as well as lsat scores being lower, most schools are HUGELY increasing their waitlists. She said she had heard directly from multiple top 20 schools admissions deans stating that they are planning on doubling or tripling their waitlists from even last year. Her takeaway message was send a LOCI to the schools, call frequently, etc. But don't hold you breath. The odds are drastically not in your favor this year.
It wasn't the best phone call I ever had but it makes a lot of sense. Schools don't know where their medians will be and are fighting to keep them. With having a smaller pool of students to keep their medians (especially top 20ish schools), it seems that they will be pulling more from the waitlist. But because of this, they are drastically increasing the waitlist sizes.
It seems Emory is doing exactly as she said, having created a priority and now a regular waitlist. I bet the regular waitlist (which I am in) is as large, if not larger than the waitlist last year, plus all the students on the priority waitlist.
Take it for what it is worth.

Re: EMORY WAITLIST Class of 2018
Well I asked them, and they said they weren't? Not sure, the way I see it, if you're waitlisted you got a shot. If you're at one median and below another median it seems possible you can get in, and not slim. It's all just speculation anyways.bob311 wrote:I have been getting waitlisted everywhere including Emory and I called to speak to my undergrad law school advisor. Re: EMORY WAITLIST Class of 2018
Seems like anything is possible at this point, and they don't want everyone on the priority waitlist to assume they are going to get an acceptance because they can't make promises like that. The dean said he plans on admitting people from both lists so.. I think everyone should have a little hope.. because why not?
We will all find out eventually!
I think things will start to happen after the deposit deadline. Fingers crossed!

Re: EMORY WAITLIST Class of 2018
Has anyone read the 2017 waitlist thread and noticed that people didn't start getting in off the waitlist until August??
Any time someone called for information they were told they hadn't had any movement yet.
I really hope things go differently this year.
has anyone asked when they will start reviewing waitlist files?

Noticed that! But you have to remember, there are a lot of people who don't post of TLS or LSN. Keep your head up! Trying to do the same. I'm not putting in any deposits anywhere-waiting on my three waitlists (Emory included). If I don't get any of them, will retake and reapply in October.
Also, I didn't get a confirm for LOCI. Did anyone else?

I didn't get a confirm either, no worries.
Admissions has made it pretty clear that every waitlist/admissions cycle is different, and to not worry about trends in past years so that's good to hear!
