Yes, I have read the bold portion before. However, there is a difference between "rarely" and "never," even if it is a small one.qwertyTLS wrote:from the wl message:everton125 wrote:I understand the CR re: additional LORs is that they likely won't be helpful. I definitely don't want to bother him if his LOR would be seriously unlikely to help at all. Just looking for some input. Thanks.
Edit: Also, is there any real value in visiting if I have not already? I only live five hours away, so doing so would not be overly burdensome. The fact that your application was selected for the wait list means that you are clearly a strong applicant to Harvard Law School. If, however, you believe you have any relevant, new information, which is not part of your application to date, which would strengthen your application, you are welcome to send additions to your file. Additional letters of recommendation are rarely useful at this time, however, if you have been enrolled in an academic program, you may wish to provide a final transcript to LSAC.

might be dissenting opinions, but i would say 'rarely useful' means it's "seriously unlikely to help"I definitely don't want to bother him if his LOR would be seriously unlikely to help at all.
however if it was me, i would get the LOR. it's not going to help, but i don't think its going to hurt either. and i'd rather believe i did everything in my power to get in off the WL then get rejected and think, 'what if i sent the lor - would that have put me over the edge'. good luck.

1 is below both medians (4%)
last cycle, there were 34 withdrawn acceptances on LSN.

Re: Harvard Law School c/o 2018 Waitlist
I did some analysis using the LSN data for last and this year. Enjoy!
2013-2014:
Accepted: 163
Median LSAT: 174
Median GPA: 3.88
25th LSAT: 172
25th GPA: 3.8
75th LSAT: 176
75th GPA: 3.95
2014-2015:
Accepted: 149
Median LSAT: 174
Median GPA: 3.88
25th LSAT: 172
25th GPA: 3.8
75th LSAT: 176
75th GPA: 3.97
Conclusion: Very similar numbers, just fewer people accepted/reported this year.
2013-2014:
Waitlisted: 99
Median LSAT: 172
Median GPA: 3.82
25th LSAT: 170
25th GPA: 3.72
75th LSAT: 175
75th GPA: 3.9
2014-2015:
Waitlisted: 121
Median LSAT: 171
Median GPA: 3.78
25th LSAT: 168
25th GPA: 3.64
75th LSAT: 172
75th GPA: 3.9
Conclusions: More people waitlisted this year. The quality of the waitlist is lower this year.
Any thoughts or ideas why this is?
Edit:
23% of this year's WLd applicants are at or above 173 LSAT (H's median), while last year that number was 42%.
Similarly, 33% of this year's WL'd applicants are at or above 3.87 GPA (H's median), when last years it was 41%.

awesome. Do you or anyone also happen to have looked through the dates from two years past? Was the movement last year early or pretty typical? The thinker wrote:First WL JS1s reported May 6th.mernburg wrote:Last year JS1s were given out on the first tuesday of the month, right?

i wonder what would happen (pretty sure it's not worthwhile, but am curious) if we only looked at the top 99 waitlisted applicants on LSN (using some index of sorts to create one # to rank applicants). would the waitlist 'quality' be similar then?

Re: Harvard Law School c/o 2018 Waitlist
ok so using Comma.Split's #'s, here's what the top 99 of the waitlist pool looks like.
i ranked applicants using the following index: (LSAT-20)+(GPA*20). i read it on one of those lsat blogs online and thought it seemed reasonable, however it's probably wrong. it's ok though because the following has no meaning whatsoever and i'm just wasting time.

so even when looking at the top of the waitlist pool, there's still a dropoff in quality from this year to last. it could mean a lot of things. maybe they've dipped to lower numbers of those accepted, which is why the waitlist quality suffers, which doesn't bode well for us on the waitlist. or it could mean they're struggling to hit numbers and is good for people who have >50th% in one (or both) statistics. no idea2014-2015:
Waitlisted: 99 (total is 121, but bottom 22 applicants removed from the following analysis to compare 'quality')
Median LSAT: 171
Median GPA: 3.80
25th LSAT: 170
25th GPA: 3.69
75th LSAT: 173
75th GPA: 3.9

Should we briefly reply to confirm reception or is it going to annoy them?

Baseless speculation but I'm going to guess that we don't see movement until at least tomorrow. They're gonna want to wait and see if people withdraw because of this email, right?
