Re: Waitlist Championships- class of 2018
I noticed that one unintended benefit of applying to many schools is that I get to travel the country for free: East coast, west coast, and the heartland. I got my money back because I had a fee waiver to begin with. I love travel stipends <3 :p

Congrats! It seems so early to be moving off the waitlist. That's great though - still in the general timeframe of regular acceptances.bluehose wrote:Waitlist movement!

Re: Waitlist Championships- class of 2018
Thanks! I am still a bit shocked. I randomly received 4 different emails about admitted students day from UGA and thought it was an error, but my status checker confirms that I've been admitted. I was not very optimistic about getting in off the waitlist, much less getting in so soon! This is great news, though part of me is worried that it is a terrible Friday the 13th error! haha I'm so excited! Good luck to everyone else on various waitlists; don't give up because good news can come even when least expected!nosocat wrote:Congrats! It seems so early to be moving off the waitlist. Re: Waitlist Championships- class of 2018
Spread a wide net and close to half of my apps were to reach schools. The top in-state school is a mid-range T2, so I applied to quite a few out-of-state schools with a much higher USNR ranking for scholarship negotiation. My plan backfired as I received a full tuition+ scholarship from top in-state school back in October. Decided I'm sick of living in this state anyways, and accepted full ride offer to out-of-state school that was meant to be used for scholarship negotiation.

Waitlisted at U W and Boston College. If anyone can comment, I would also appreciate some advice about getting accepted off of a wait list! I've sent LOCI's and plan to do campus visits, meet with Adcom members, etc. when possible. However, I am unsure how to approach campus visits and would appreciate some tips & input from someone with more experience!

Now's probably a good time to share this story:Harry_Pluxen wrote:Waitlisted at U W and Boston College. I got off the waitlist at my top choice about 2 weeks ago. I spent about a month working on supplemental materials (LOCI, addendum, and updated resume), and then scheduled a campus visit/interview with adcom. Here's what I learned from the whole process:
1. There are a number of reasons why people get waitlisted. It's important to know why you were waitlisted. It could be YP, could be number issues, or it could be other weaknesses with your application (e.g. erratic grades). Use this knowledge to prepare your supplemental materials. If you have a GPA around the median, but your grades varied wildly from semester to semester, you need an addendum addressing that. If your LSAT/GPA are way above the 75th, a convincing Why X/LOCI would really help your cause.
2. Also use this knowledge to prepare for a visit to the school. All the supplemental materials you send should address why x, why law, career goals, and any weaknesses in your application, you should be prepared to discuss these questions in a meeting with an adcom member. I spent a ridiculous amount of time preparing for my meeting at my top choice (>15 hours for a 40 minute meeting), and it paid off with an offer before I left the office.
3. If you're close to their medians, then displaying strong writing skills, strong advocacy skills, and a genuine interest/enthusiasm for the school will probably move you to the front of the line. The dean of admissions I spoke with cited these three things in particular as his reason for granting me admission on the spot (FWIW, I was at the median LSAT and at 25% GPA).
I hope this helps someone get off the waitlist at their top choice. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Waitlisted at GW I'm planning on writing an LOCI and visiting the law school. Should I contact the admissions committee asking for a meeting? Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Waitlist Championships- class of 2018
I am putting the LOCI/post WL correspondence theory to the test. I do not have the LSAT goods like many of you. I have a 3.9, MA/PhD with a measly 163.
UVA (WL) - Wrote why UVA/ LOCI
G-town (Preferred WL)- LOCI
NU (Held)- Why NU
Penn (Held)- Two LOCI's/Updated recommendation; I'm praying it works out.
Columbia (Reserve Group)
- More of a "thanks for flattering me but I know I won't get in because of TLS forum statisticians" LOCI
Rej: UChicago, Harvard, UTexas (Who indicated in the letter I should apply to transfer if I really wanted to go there)
Accepted: Berkeley, UMichigan, Cornell, ND $$, BC$$.
Waiting to hear: Duke, NYU, Stanford (likely three rej.'s with perhaps an intermittent WL)
