Also sitting at 12/8. Only waiting on Duke and one other school now.franny90 wrote:nope - also sitting at 12/8nguzman wrote:Any movement from the 12/8 UR people? Sitting in agony waiting for this decision since it's the last school I'm waiting on.
Agreed. Bummer.tincan678 wrote:Larger-than-expected scholarships being reported in the main Duke thread. Probably not good for us non-PT folk still waiting for a decision, at least in terms of $$$.
Don't worry too much! Close friend of mine got off the wait-list last year at the last second and still got a decent amount!ticklemesilly wrote:Agreed. Haha thanks. Although I'd prefer generous over decent, getting any aid at all would be nice this late in the game. I'm UR 1/26 =(chicago_01 wrote:Don't worry too much! I'm not losing hope. The PT results this year look anomalous on their face, but I trust that the process will resolve itself by the end. Maybe Duke just has a bigger pot of money this year, like some have speculated UVA does. I am still really befuddled about the purpose of the PT program (I believe it increases matriculation of targeted candidates), but I can't imagine Duke would structure the decisions and awards to marginalize those they didn't invite. As we've seen here and in the main thread, there are strong numbers and holistic candidates in the RD pool.tincan678 wrote:Larger-than-expected scholarships being reported in the main Duke thread. In the reverse sense of the question, perhaps the same answer applies to Duke? Maybe they're trying to make their move up the charts?nickhalden wrote:I'm not losing hope. MikeSpivey wrote:Well, it's peculiar. One would guess that it is a combination of a large amount of money to give thus year (either a one-time dump from central university or their dean is a great fundraiser) + they are projecting other schools suffer drops and trying to beat them to the punch of shoring up their numbers. BUT, when you do have a lot of money to give, AND it is a down year in applications, that is PRECISELY when you try to make your move...not hedge your bets.Mack.Hambleton wrote:Want to speculate on why UVA is giving out lots of full rides to below median people?
So my best guess is either once again the LSN/TLS data simply is very small (I vaguely remember an admissions colleague calculating it was 4% of the entire pool one year), or they aren't doing things the way they should?
I keep forgetting that it wasn't totally free. Good point. I'll wait.tincan678 wrote:Ride it out. Even if you don't get a scholarship, being admitted and then not attending will at least hurt Duke's yield numbers and maybe change their approach to the PT system.DiniMae wrote:I went ur after turning my app in a month prior. At this point I've been accepted by 4 schools I'd rather go to so I don't know if I should just withdraw or ride it out out of sheer curiosity. At this point, I know I'm not going there so what's the point? I'm not getting a scholarship from Duke to leverage so....???
At the very least you've already paid the LSAC fee, so you owe it to yourself to see what comes of it. At least that's what I keep telling myself.
Same as with UVA, results don't seem to agree with a "make your move" approach. If Duke was being aggressive, people with top scores would be seeing large scholly offers. Instead, top applicants (Like Mack.Hambelton) are getting lowballed. It may be that Duke (seemingly like UVA) is playing close to the chest, keeping money for candidates they are sure will matriculate. It's as if they are afraid that low and mid 170s will flee to the upper T14, leaving them scrambling to hold medians and 75ths.DiniMae wrote:In the reverse sense of the question, perhaps the same answer applies to Duke? Same though applied later than you. Don't give up hope yet.alloverthat wrote:Really randomly got accepted today, non-PT. Had kind of given up hope actually so stay with it for a little while! Applied early Nov

Same exact dates, same exact thoughts.smashes wrote:Went complete 12/1, UR on 1/5 and nothing since then. I would say it's safe to say that they won't be getting back to me any time before Armageddon.
I think this is a bit of a stretch. I was a PT applicant, and still am waiting to hear back from two T-14s (non-HYS) that I applied to months ago. It's not as if Duke is the only T-14 school that has some applicants waiting long periods. Besides, PT-applicants are Duke's strongest pool and the good-will it builds with them is probably greater than the negative feelings from the non-PT crowd.ticklemesilly wrote:I don't mean to vent here but I think Duke has left a lot of qualified applicants out of the priority track process and created a general atmosphere of discontent for its non-PT applicants. I for one feel very frustrated that the non-PT applicants have to wait so long for decisions and feel that we are very disadvantaged from the start. This has definitely soured me to Duke which was previously my top choice.
I would like to know what proportion of applicants applied via PT. It seems like almost everyone on the Duke forum is PT, although I'm sure that's because the
they've seen a disproportionate amount of movement in their application process.
You both make good points. Ticklemesilly, I'm not sure whether Duke accepts solicitations for the PT track, so we have to keep in mind that they are sending out invites with only CRS info. From what I've seen on here, even candidates with the "right" numbers can still be passed over by the automated process. I'm guessing DC is correct in saying that the boon of PT for Duke is that a good chunk of the great applicants have more time to get hooked on the school, even though there may be other great applicants who have to wait longer. I'm not PT either, and I will admit that knowing that I'm not a "priority" (read: YOU CANT SIT WITH US) for a school ranked lower and in a less desirable location than other schools to which I've been admitted does turn me off ever so slightly. I figure I'm in it for the long haul... might as well give them as much time as every other school is allowed to take.DCfilterDC wrote:I think this is a bit of a stretch.
