Anything you would have done differently second time around (outside of not going to Davis)?IRegretUCDavis wrote:I was top 40-45% when I graduated with a 3.3. I did fail the California bar along with about 15% of my class, but you should keep in mind that only came out at Thanksgiving--I had been applying to entry level attorney positions until then. Since January, I've applied to over 80 positions that do not require admission but are still in the regulatory, compliance, policy, and tax fields. I have pretty much written off starting as an attorney in the private sector at this point, but am keeping state work in mind once I receive my February results. I entered Davis with a 164 LSAT and 3.6 directly from a nationally recognized undergrad school.
Regarding the correlation between class rank and job placement, you should straight up ask King Hall for the coefficient. You deserve to know. Looking at the data quickly, it looks like about 40 of my class of 169 (23%) are either unemployed or employed by the university temporarily, and fewer than half work for any size of law firm. Anecdotally, my roommate was a superstar in moot court and law review and ranked in the 10% (that is to say, about the top 15 students) but had a very tough time finding a job in his home legal market in Southern California and only landed something permanent in late February.

Factors in decreasing importance:laub wrote:Is anyone debating between UCI and UC Davis? I'd love to hear some opinions on the two schools. I realize choosing what law school is best for each person is somewhat subjective, but I am curious about thematic opinions from y'all. Thanks in advance!
1. Which one will cost less? They're peer schools. If about equal, I say edge goes to Davis just based on employment stats and actually having an alumni network.
2. NorCal or SoCal? It's easier to network when the school is in the area in which you want to practice in.
3. Personal preference. Maybe the general feel at the ASWs will give you some idea.

Waitlist limbo
Does the fact that UC Davis extended its application deadline suggest that it will go to its waitlist sooner rather than later??
Was there any discussion about that at Admitted Students Weekend?

Re: Waitlist limbo
I don't think a deadline extension suggests that at all. I think the extension suggests they are looking for more well-qualified applicants. I don't think that necessarily suggests the will go to their wait-list sooner; I think it suggests that they still aren't interested in admitting those that have been wait-listed, as they are clearly trying to build their class with new applicants.Cassandra123 wrote:Does the fact that UC Davis extended its application deadline suggest that it will go to its waitlist sooner rather than later??

If anything, I think an extended deadline might suggest they will go to their wait-list later than they otherwise would have.

Re: Waitlist limbo
There was also a discrepancy between what they had listed as their application deadline and what LSAC had on their site. Originally they had written that they would NOT be accepting any applications past the first date but then implemented the extension. Perhaps it also has to do with potential applicants that were counting on later deadline and LSAC date error?ReasonableNprudent wrote:I don't think a deadline extension suggests that at all. Anyone know if the deposit is due by a certain time today? I don't see a specific time mentioned in the response form so I'm assuming it's just due by the end of the calendar day, but trying to confirm. I'm waiting on a scholarship update from another school that was promised by today and I have a feeling they're going to wait as long as they can.

Withdrew today, much to my (Sacramento area) family's chagrin. Hopefully someone else gets the $130k I gave up. My family would probably adopt you too.

Berkeley. Still haven't gotten any scholarship info from them which is why I was holding on to Davis, trying to decide between a full ride there or what's looking like sticker at Berkeley. But ultimately Berk has been my dream school for years and I already live down the street from it and want to stay in the area so I think it will be the better fit.idontknow1 wrote:Maybe now they will let me in! Nice, I think you're making the right decision, especially if you live right there! Congrats, that's a big accomplishment.arose928 wrote:Berkeley. Re: UC Davis c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Finally heard back yesterday- admitted. I applied back in January and unfortunately for Davis I've already committed to another school. Kind of funny how things work out, I live in Sacramento right now and probably would've gone to Davis had I heard back earlier but now it looks like I'm definitely moving. I will be interested to see what their scholarship offer looks like although I doubt it'll beat the offer I already accepted since it's rather late in the game.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
