Obviously not in your case, but is it unusual to go to the same school for undergrad and law school? Is it frowned up or is it not a factor?

Have any other late applicants heard anything? App status says all admits will be out by April 1 and Waitlist/Holds out by May 1 and I haven't heard back. (guess thats bad news) But I haven't seen any updates on LSN recently so I figured I'd see if anyone on here has heard anything.

Nope
Did your hold say if no decision was made before the 15th you would be placed on the waitlist? I just want a decision either way before that time. I feel like UNC is the hot girl at the bar who is showing interest in me and I'm coming at her hard, but she is playing hard to get and isn't as in to me as I am in to her.

Yeah I hear you, and yes, they said the same to me. I'm really hoping for a decision this week. I went and visited, expressed my sincere interest while there, etc...

Sitting at Application complete since late December. Needless to say, I'm not very optimistic about the outcome here. Anyone else complete in December (or earlier) still waiting on a decision?

*Also, I tried to post this once, but it did not show up on my computer, so my apologies if I double posted somehow :(

It's definitely not unusual, and I would say that it's pretty much a non-factor. Whenever I have interviewed with somebody who was also a Double-Tar Heel they always want to talk about it. So, if anything, it's kind of helped on that front. I will say that it was nice at the beginning of the school year when everybody else was still discovering the bars and restaurants of Chapel Hill to not have that same adjustment period to a new town, but as I said earlier, I think it's a non-factor.

One of the down sides to attending the same school as your undergrad is that you limit your alumni network to one group of people. If you attend a different school, your alumni network expands dramatically.

Has anyone been successful with negotiation/scholarship reconsideration requests this cycle?

Update: I sent them a request yesterday. Was told today that they are not increasing merit scholarship amounts at this time, but may consider doing so in the future. And that's about all that the email said.

Nothing, hope I hear something before the 15th. I'll probably ride out the waitlist if that is the scenario, but it sucks potentially throwing away 400 bucks, but I guess 400 is nothing in terms of my legal education.

For those of you who are enrolling, what made you pick UNC over other options? I am from OOS but love NC and could definitely see myself living there. Just need some insight as to why it might be more appealing than comparable schools.

Would like to hear the thoughts/opinions of current students and prospective students that are from out of state.

I know that UNC offers in-state tuition for OOS students for their 2L and 3L years, but I also heard that it is very, very difficult to gain residency.

I have been offered a nice scholarship and this offer would look great if it was accompanied by in-state tuition.

Any thoughts on the ease/difficulty of becoming a North Carolina Resident?

Thanks!

I know the letter said 70-80% of students who try to gain residency are successful in doing so - I kind of find that as a consolation (I am out of state too). My suggestion would be to get a NC license and voter's registration card immediately when you get to North Carolina.

For me the biggest appeals were: good job numbers compared to peer schools on LST, good ATL and US News ranking, strong alumni network in the state and region, decent potential for clerkships, gorgeous weather, and fun extracurriculars like basketball.

what sealed the deal: alot of externship opportunities, alot of personal communication with admissions, best scholarship offer from my applied to schools, cheap in state tuition and decent OOS tuition, and a desire to practice in NC.

They told me they are not in a position at the moment (2 weeks ago) to increase merit based scholarships that were awarded but hoped to increase or consider increases to merit scholarships before the April 10th deadline.

I plan to attend either way but haven't submitted my deposit in hopes that they will increase my offer. Not counting on it though.
