Hey guys! I applied and got accepted in December. I lived in Vegas most of my life but left for college. Family still there so considering going to UNLV. If you guys have questions about Vegas in general PM me or post them. I can probably answer most of them.

Checking in. I applied in early November, went into review on 12/6 and no movement since. By the way, I have heard that the Nevada board of regents is pretty generous in their residency policies. I picked up their requirements and it seems to be (assuming I read correctly) that if you opened a small business or a spouse got a full time job in Nevada that you have a fighting chance of being awarded in-state tuition even before your first year. That seemed outlandish to me. Can anyone confirm that?

I applied in mid-November and have heard nothing. I don't even have a status checker.

Threw my name in because a guy I know has identical stats and got a full ride. I've always lived in LA, so the fact that getting "stuck" out there would mean that I'd still be close to my family isn't exactly a bad thing, to me...

They gave me 15,960 a year. It is like 2/3 tuition because I am in-state. I don't think there were any stips.
Idk about admitted students day lol I don't remember seeing anything about it

Congrats!

BTW, I'm OOS and after I read the residency requirement it seems like it's possible to obtain in state residency as long as you have Full time employment and can show a NV Driver License prior to matriculation (Orientation?). I'm going to be PT, so Obtaining FT employment is a given. Did everyone else who read this understand it the same way?

Also, Please post here if you figure out when the admitted student day will be...They do have one right?

Yes, you have it right. I spoke with someone at the school and they basically said that the laws on residency are such that getting in-state tuition even before your first year is a very real possibility if you just fulfill the requirements on the application. There are several ways that don't include living there for 12 months and there were two ways that I thought were the easiest for a full-time student. The first was start a small business and show them your business license, register to vote (or get a driver's license), and show proof that the business in operation. The second way is, if you're married, have your spouse get full-time work before school starts, get proof of the job, register to vote, and show a marriage license. They told me it is very common for them to give in-state tuition to OOS applicants in their first year.

If I remember right, the lady I spoke with said they have an admitted student day tentatively planned for the last weekend in March.

Thanks for the info, the more I look into it the more I feel like I will be moving to Vegas this coming summer! Damn...I hope they do the 1st week of April, UofA has theirs the last weekend of March too, and I want to check them out as well. Are you pretty set on UNLV?

UNLV is definitely one of my top choices. I'll be taking the lsat in June with hopes of getting off the waitlist at BYU though. If not, UNLV would suit me just fine. I'm also in at Arizona and would love it there but I doubt I'll get much, if any $$$ so that's not a realistic option for an out of stater like me. I plan on staying in the mountain West so with my savings I'll just go where I can keep my debt at or near zero.

Thanks for the advice! I'm really fine with living in Nevada, Arizona, or Utah (and I have contacts and family in all three as well). Any of those schools work for me. However, an in-state waiver would definitely change my outlook for Arizona. Let's hope they loved my application for some non-numerical reason because I don't think my credentials will do it.
