Glad they finally came around. Now I don't feel bad going there.

Are the upped scholarships still subject to GPA stipulations or have you been able to negotiate those away?

You really mean "top 40%", do you? That is you have to be better than 60% of your classmates.

It's more like top 60% based on past stats--i.e. must do better than about 40% of your classmates. It's an amazing deal of you want to be in Utah!

So you (Jac and Utes) both got 3.25 and not 3.35 as people reported they were getting a month or two ago? That indeed would make it from top 40% down to top 60%. Big difference.

Ya I really griped about the stips and the fact they wouldn't negotiate plus that ASU was giving better offers. They lowered the stips in this last round. I think they want to get a better class this year to ensure they don't drop out of the top 50. Last year they didn't give out the extra money. It's nearly free for me at this point so it's hard to turn down.

For the "Centennial" Scholarship offer, the stip is 3.25 which i think is just below median based on the last few years. The pdf they attach with retention rates is based on a 3.35 stip which is offered on other conditional scholarships. My guess is they used that as a reference because maybe they don't have retention data based on a 3.25 stip (maybe it's new?).

That's what I read from the offer email, if I misunderstood, feel free to correct me I don't want to give any bad info here. :D

That's great, at least for Utah. I don't think they went down to 3.25 last year, they probably feel market pressure. Congratulations to all!

Wondering what people's numbers are for the centennial. I had a 3.2 168. Was expecting full, but can't complain. I guess a 168 only helps their numbers marginally because a 162 is still above their 75th. Any thoughts?

How big was the Centennial increase compared with what you were offered initially? Did you get it before the deposit deadline or after?

After the deadline. I was planning on going anyway lolz. Initially I was offered 14500 per year (I'm in state) and then it increased to like 23k per year so quite the increase. I'm waitlisted at a bunch of t-14's and I know someone last year with similar numbers ended up getting off the waitlist at georgetown and went there because he never got offered more than the 14k. I think they stepped it up this year and I sure am glad because I was starting to second guess myself.

Any WL movement? Do any admitted students know how full the class is? (unlikely, but figured I'd ask)

I haven't heard anything but I'm sure there are spots. There are only 53 in the fb group. If I were you I would show up on June 6th with 600 bucks in hand and say I really want to go here. That's the seat deposit deadline. This method works. I have seen it work many times. There will undoubtedly be students who don't deposit and showing up with the cash shows your serious. Also your numbers are on the cusp so you probably have better stats than the lions share of waitlisted candidates.

Have you heard of that working at the U? More details on that strategy would be great! I'd hate for it to backfire in anyway. I have the money if I got in and honestly The U has a great program and a lot to offer in-line with what I want to do.

That is funny. But given their used-car salesman's tactics ("$500 is due on June 6 or it will be $550 and only if my boss approves") responding in kind might actually work.

I think it would work. How bad is it I you don't have the 500?? I just lost my credit card and have to get a new one mailed.. Do you think they cash the checks right away?

It just seems risky to go in there with the cash saying "here's my money, let me in." I would hate for it to back fire and kill my chance at all.

And who would I even approach up there?

Seriously, I would not try it unless you know it worked (in a positive way) before, preferably with Utah. What probably would not harm your chances, in any case, is to call the associate dean for admissions on the afternoon of the last day and assure him you are very much interested in Utah and would be ready to make a deposit right away.

The whole dropping in with the money didn't sit well.

But I do like the idea of calling him—I've actually been playing around with the idea for a while. I did send in an LOCI. It was quite detailed so I don't think I should send in another (don't want redundancy) and expressed complete interested in the U to the associate dean via email then as well.

Do you think a call around the deadline would be excessive? (did the LOCI and email back in April)
