Congrats to those who applied and got in! I applied 12/05 but no response yet Guess I'll have to wait! Anyone know if they send out more decisions in the upcoming week or so before Christmas, or should the rest of us wait until afterwards? I tried looking around at the other years posts but really couldn't find anything.

Just got accepted!!
My application only went "complete" yesterday because I was waiting on one letter of recommendation (I sent in two). That was such a fast turnaround! Holy moly

Well, since they only require one letter of recommendation, I am not sure if they considered me complete on 1/02 or on 1/09 but...
Submitted 1/02
1st LOR in 1/06
Sent an email to all my schools asking them to wait until my 2nd LOR (all responded saying no problem) on 1/08
2nd LOR in 1/09
Accepted 1/10
I thought this was incredibly fast.
In my acceptance letter, I was offered $27K per year.

I know this is technically out of the scope of this thread but since I'm not getting much of a response on the other thread I figured I'd ask here. Since Loyola Chicago and Chicago Kent are pretty much peer schools, did anyone who applied to Loyola also apply to Kent? I know I did and they are actually ranked higher than Loyola but they are getting NO love on this forum. Just curious if anyone here could give me a reason why you'd apply to Loyola and get generally more excited about it rather than Kent. Thanks!

JNE,
I applied to both. As well as UChi, NU, and DePaul. I've only heard back from Loyola and DePaul. UChi and NU are really a long shot with my numbers, but I'm in LOVE with NU and would go there in a heartbeat.
I haven't yet gone to tour Loyola although I live only a couple miles from it. I plan to soon.
Loyola excites me because I believe the alumni network is pretty strong. They are also offering me a very nice amount in merit scholarship.
Chicago-Kent is ranked higher than Loyola, yes. I went and toured it on Wednesday with a friend who actually graduated from there in 2013. It's a nice school -- but something tells me it's not for me. It's one of those gut feelings you can't explain.
All in all, I am a very feelings-based person. I have a spreadsheet detailing all the rational elements of my decision (ranking, school size, acceptance rate, job prospects, etc...) to help me think logically. But I think you really got to evaluate "Do I see myself here?"
Hope you can visit the schools. I think that will help anyone/everyone decide.

Re: Loyola Chicago c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
I was admitted to Loyola and I considered applying to Kent but I decided against it. Though Kent is ranked a bit higher, Loyola seems to have more of a solid alumni base in chicago. I will tour NU and Loyola at the end of February. I am interviewing at NU, but getting in is a long shot due to my numbers. I look forward to visiting Loyola while I am in town. I hear great things about the school and thus far all of my interactions with the staff has been beyond great. Loyola was NEVER on my radar until I met Dean Bloomquist at a law school forum. Upon talking to her, I did my due dilligence in research which ultimately led me to apply. I am of course awaiting decisions from other school's but my gut already tells me that Loyola is the place for me. They came out of nowhere like DIVINE INTERVENTION lol. In my opinion for chicago as far as respect it seems.....
1. Uchi
2. Northwestern
3.Uni of Illinois
4. Loyola
5. Kent
6. Depaul
and of course ND and IU unloading some grads into the chicago market so you have to deal with that as well

Re: Loyola Chicago c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
Okay so the bottom line is that Loyola's solid alumni base is the reason why Loyola is more respected (which I'm sure has a lot to do with the fact that their undergrad program is more widely known). That does make sense, however, I believe their employment prospects are actually lower at least according to LST for c/o 2012 http://www.lstscorereports.com/?r=ilStrongfaithgirl wrote:I was admitted to Loyola and I considered applying to Kent but I decided against it. Still slightly perplexed by the lack of enthusiasm for C-Kent because of that reason but I do understand the gut feelings that happen for one school over another and how powerful connections with faculty can be. Thanks Strongfaithgirl and leigh912198972 for your responses!!
One last question though... I got into Loyola with only a $15K scholly & got into Kent with a $60K scholly. What do you believe the wise choice is in this scenario? (Assuming Loyola is not willing to negotiate).

Re: Loyola Chicago c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
Are there requirements to keep these? I assume those are totals right? so 5K per year for Loyola and 20K per year for CK?JNE wrote:One last question though... No GPA requirements? I ask because I know CK at one point had good scholarships that required you to be in top 10% of your class to keep it. I have a Loyola scholly with no GPA requirement. (Haven't heard from CK yet)
I would definitely visit and weigh in a LOT of factors other than scholarship.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
