I considered this. And NC instate tuition is very attainable, especially if you register your car, register to vote, etc. as soon as you arrive in North Carolina.

At ASD one of the students said it took 12 months from the day you move to nc, so she advised incoming out of state students to move during the summer.

i wish i could be wrong, but according to some people (the dean... :? ), NC is super strict about attaining residency. You somehow need to prove to them that you will plan to live in NC AFTER you graduate...

Also remember that if you work out of state during the year you are working toward NC residency you need to pay taxes to NC, not state you work in.

UNC is a wonderful school. The tuition is very manageable as well as the establishment of residency. A previous poster commented on the difficulty of residency for Virginia and yes it is nearly impossible. Just follow the rules to the letter for NC. Out of state tuition at other schools is generally much higher. You do realize that UNC is a public university, right. The money is not as available. Wake for instance offers heavy discounted tuition to talented students, while the lesser students pay full tuition allowing you to go for less.

Can anyone comment on what the COL is like in Chapel Hill? The UNC website says around 15k, is that accurate?

Went back a couple of pages and can't see anything related to it: Is it rude/frowned upon to submit a LOCI when you haven't even gotten a response?

I'm at the same complete date I submitted on for over 3 months now. I just want to let them know I'm still interested...

I can't imagine why it would be rude, unless you're rude in writing ("Hey morons, why haven't you told me *anything* in the past three months? I'm waiiitttinnggg and have big decisions to make").

Be cordial and understanding, just do what you said - let the committee know you're still interested and consider the school one of your top choices. Even better, let them know if there's anything new in your life. Dean's List? Small promotion at work? Interest in a professor's recent course or lecture?

you could also try calling them and asking what's up with the delay, or if they just forgot to inform you of a decision, then submit a LOCI if you got waitlisted.

Which idea- calling or emailing a letter of continued interest?

I was about to send one with a few updates...

Okay ya, I didn't call. Just sent the letter. I read over the "application received" email from way back and it said specifically do NOT call inquiring about your app. Hopefully my letter with updates doesn't fall in the category.

Just talked to admissions, he said to wait to send anything until post-decision (obviously applies to a wait list status only)

I'd just like something when one number is >75th and the other is <25th. But I'm OOS :(

FYI, emailed with admissions something and they told me all decisions will be out on or before May 1. Hopefully this happens!

According to the Law School Numbers page for UNC, there have been no decisions since April 1st. Is this true? Has anyone heard of any movement positive or negative? Pure speculation, but does anyone think the admin will dump all decisions on Thursday May 1st? Reading some past threads from 2016 & 2015 many folks heard they were wait-listed or denied as late at 7 pm on May 1st. Right now I am thinking of this UNC cycle like the lottery, YAY if I win, but I would be really really surprised at this point.

I'm sure they'll have some more acceptances before May 1st, after all the seat deposit deadlines have passed.

According to the updated admitted student website there is still one more April 25 deadline this Friday that may impact decisions:

To reserve your place in the Fall 2014 entering class, you must submit to the law school's Office of Admissions the following:

If you were admitted prior to March 24, your first seat deposit is due by April 11, 2014. If you were admitted on March 24, your first seat deposit is due by April 25, 2014. If you were admitted on April 1, your first seat deposit is due by May 2, 2014. All first seat deposit payments are non-refundable. Payments by check should be made payable to the University of North Carolina School of Law. MasterCard and ACH (direct debit from bank account) may be used to make online payments. Online payments are preferred.

A second non-refundable deposit of $250.00 must be paid by Friday, June 13, 2014.

Seat deposits can be paid by visiting https://admitted.law.unc.edu/payments/. If your seat deposits are not received by the Office of Admissions by the due dates, then your offer of admission will expire, meaning that we will no longer hold a place for you in our Fall 2014 entering class.

This is true. When I spoke with admissions, they said there would definitely be *some* admits on/by May 1st. But the majority will be WL/Deny.
