Yanky91, Is UNC a top choice for you even without money? So many have given up on UNC due to low scholly offers, but you sound super excited! As a local I can say if you applied and got into Wake Forrest also, UNC has a way better reputation.

If you are in the boat of deciding between the two my general advice: UNC 0$ >>>> Wake $$$. Especially if you want to practice in NC or the South as a region. The Alumni network is just so important and UNC stands out in NC as having the premiere network for newbie law grads. This is in general not for any specific field of law.

UNC is a great school no doubt, but you would have to be out of your mind to go there without a scholarship. The only way I would consider UNC is with close to a full ride. I have a full ride to UIUC, Cardozo, and close to a full ride to Wake. If it came down to Wake and UNC, I would choose whichever costs less. UNC is a better school, but not enough to justify paying that much more.

I have a close relative that graduated in top 10 from Wake and has a six figure salary from Wake and got in on a scholarship so he is pretty happy with his choice of law school (he ended up living with his family in Winston Salem). UNC really has a national reputation and that matters if you want to have flexibility when it comes to future mobility if your spouse also has a professional career. Even a $100,000 won't seem like much when you are looking back 30 years from now towards the end of your career. It is a personal choice, but I stick with my opinion $0 UNC >>>> $$$ Wake (if you want to practice in NC or go into politics especially).

Yeah, you're right. It is a personal opinion. That said, I just hate debt. I personally would take Wake with a big scholarship over UNC sticker, but it depends on the person's background and post law school plans. UNC has a good national rep (better than Wake), but I am just too scared of debt.

Just got a scholarship offer of 14k a year. If I were in state i would do this, but I'm OOS. It sucks that they don't negotiate. They were my #1

Got an email this morning saying that I "have not received a scholarship offer at this time" and that a second round of scholarship offers may go out in early May.

Probably will withdraw my application.

I have been "Application Complete 1/3/2014" and I am starting to get anxious, does anyone know if UNC is really slow, or behind on apps? Should I be worried? Also has anyone been waiting as long as me? UNC is my top choice and I am starting to get discouraged, and with no movement or any word this wait is even worse. Anyone in the same boat?

It is possible, but usually it takes your parent/guardian also transferring to NC and working as citizens for a year or otherwise marrying a NC citizen (intent to stay in NC post graduation). So if you have a fiance that is a local that would work out really good. When I filled out my in-state form there was a great deal of information about this so I recommend going to UNC's website and looking at the link for that form even if you are not going to submit it. I am fairly certain by law you cannot come to NC just for education and then leave out of state again for work and receive in-state tuition (I am sure there are exceptional cases). Regardless the first thing you want to do Fall semester would be to register your car locally and change your voter registration and driver's license to help establish residency and intent to stay. My friend from undergrad did this and after two years was able to make it happen at NC State. (I should mention her dad bought her apartment and the property was put in her name, also she now works for IBM in RTP and married a local so her intent to stay in NC was strong.)

"A legal resident for tuition purposes is a student who has demonstrated that he or she has been a North Carolina legal resident for at least the twelve (12) consecutive months immediately preceding the school term for which he or she seeks the in-state tuition rate and that he or she intends to make North Carolina his or her permanent home, as opposed to being in North Carolina solely to attend college."

If your numbers are way above the medians then it is not such a big deal. However, they specifically ask to write Why UNC. You should have had about 2pgs of personal statement, and 2pgs of why UNC. That is what they asked for.

I wouldn't worry. It's done. There is nothing you can do about it now. You might be admitted just based off your LSAT.

I've been complete since 1/13, I have either received a decision or "under review" at every other school I have applied to. Is it too early to write a letter of continued interest if we haven't heard back since applying?

Anyone know how long the wait is after you see a status date change? Just had my first movement in a long while, but it still says complete. Current status is 03/12.

From the status checker: "We will have our first round of admit decisions rendered by April 1, 2014 and all complete files will have a decision by May 1, 2014. This means that we will have made our admissions offers to those who will not be waitlisted or denied by April 1."

So basically if UNC has confirmed that our apps are complete and we don't receive a decision in the next two weeks, we are either waitlisted or denied. Welp, that's a bummer.

Did those who were accepted go from complete to under review? I have been complete for 6 weeks, but don't know if never going under review means I will probably be waitlisted, I should email, or it means absolutely nothing.
